Great restaurant in the centre of Ypres. Local menu in 3 languages, great choice of beers. Very helpful staff. Highly recommended.
The food is plentiful and well cooked. Great menu. Service is excellent. Love coming here when visiting Ypres
Vriendelijke bediening, lekker eten 👍
Top!
Toffe bediening, vriendelijk, heel mooi gezellige tea room restaurant
Goede service!Pure keuken de hazerug was Top Bedankt alvast 👌👍👍👍
Heel gezellig restaurant een aanrader
Top top 👍👍
Zeer lekker gegeten!
Absolutely loved it, the pizza was to die for, back here for dinner tmw night

Heel lekker eten.vriendelijk personeel
Bah
Gezellig
Het gezelligste restaurant van de markt !!! Zeer lekkere steaks gewoon top . :-)
Lovely place, shocking service walked out after not being served/acknowledged after 15 minutes.
Prettig verblijf gehad.
Nice place. Good food and drinks.
Crepes gaufres et beignets servis genereusement. Interieur ambiance sympa
Super vriendelijk maar de entrecote was minder.
Can't give a full review on this place as we only popped in for a drink. The size of the place is deceptive as it goes a good way back. Looks onto the market square and like all such located venues charge in my opinion over inflated prices.

This is a busy town and we were here for a late weekday afternoon needing lunch and were pleased with this restaurant with its wooden paneling and warm fireplace. The service was fine but they did seem a little short staffed. The croque monsieur was great and the late just fine. I did like the ambiance.
After waiting over 45 minutes and watching others who arrived after me have their food orders delivered, I cancelled my food order. After finishing my drink I got up to leave and then the food arrived. Sent it back and asked for the drinks bill. Was then made to wait before being able to pay it - talk about petty minded behaviour! Service was awful and best to be avoided.
Visited this restaurant last evening - granted we did not book but there were plenty of seating ( not surprisingly) We ordered and after 45 minutes wait and enquiring were told if would be ready in a few minutes. No apology for delay. Plenty of waiting staff. Just disinterested- we left without food and they still were disinterested. We were accommodated by lovely Captain Cook restaurant nearby !
Visited mid-afternoon and asked waitress who seated us if we could just order drinks. We then waited whilst she cleaned and relaid four tables. Ten minutes after arriving our order was taken then the waitress chatted to another member of staff before placing our order - approaching 15 minutes in exasperation we cancelled the order and left.
Slow service and they actually charge for tap water. And the water didn’t even arrive. Food itself was ok.
Excellent position in the town centre and good food, waiting staff and hospitality. Dog friendly and happy o serve you just a coffee or a full meal. Recommended.
We are here a few times during our stay in Ieper. Each time the food was delicious and the service was efficient and pleasant. It isn’t the cheapest place to eat, but is good value for money. Good choice of food and drink options. Would highly recommend it.
Went to this restaurant 10th July with friends on a visit to Ieper (Ypres) we first called in for a snack of pancakes, waffles & coffee. The service was excellent & staff really helpful there was plenty of food & we found the price favourable. We enjoyed the food so much that we went back for our evening meal later, this was again excellent. The staff were really helpful as I can’t eat certain foods so they advised me of the ingredients in certain dishes. I settled for a steak which was amazing friends ate lasagne & spaghetti Bolognaise which was delicious, all round a great experience. Thank you
Set close to the Menin gate this is a cool-vibe modern restaurant. Service ok, smiles not a prerequisite it would appear. Apple fritters and waffles all good. Coffee really very poor.
On the square in Ypres. Lots of restaurants competing so all are good. Great serving staff, well done Rueben. Food very good. I did not notice that it was very expensive. Though the price was ok.
Bit expensive if on a budget, had good steaks, not busy compared to cheaper neighbouring eateries, very good service, suppose you get what you pay for!
I would so like to sit in this restaurant again, with a seat right on Ypres square looking at the Cloth Hall and all of the people passing by. It's worth a visit for that alone. The food was excellent and the portions more than generous. Efficient and friendly staff topped it off. Oh to be seated there with a coffee and view on a fine summer evening....
This restaurant is well worth a visit. It offers good service, good food and a good atmosphere. We have tried both afternoon tea and evening meal, and they have both been a good experience. Always busy with locals must be a good sign of respected value.
This restaurant has tables inside and out. On a hot spring evening we took advantage of the last of the sun and sat outside overlooking the square. Good food and service.
rude staff thats really all i want to say about this dump but you have to leave 100 letter at least so i will just say look up and down the rode there are better place to eat everywhere
This felt like a bit of a machine serving the many tourists on the square. The food we ordered was really good (scampi and smoked salmon salad) but we were not made to feel welcome at all. I guess with so many people passing through that don’t need to bother.
clearly overrated place rdered green tea which was served already with water inside. this means that the tea was bitter as it should not be more than 2 min in water. when we ordered a new tea - clearly mentioning that it up to the waitress to put the first one on the bill or not - got angry looks and very impolite answers.on top of that tea was served the same way again but quicker so was nit in the water very long and not so bitter. on top of that accuse of being impolite...Very negative experience
Friday night dinner - delicious. Located on the central square and therfore a great location to watch everything going on. 2 minutes walk from the Menin Gate. The Flemish stew was amazing, generous serves of food. The staff were great, friendly and prompt. The restaurant itself was modern and immaculate. Definitely give it a try.
What a wonderful Flemish Stew we had at this restaurant. Served with a huge bowl of chips and a lovely side salad. Would definitely recommend.
Nice place, friendly staff nice area to stop for a drink. I never had food here but the food looked good.
We visited the Vivaldi following recommendations online and from friends after watching the Menin gate memorial service. Lovely food with very generous portion sizes. Nice atmosphere with good service and the option to dine inside or out on the terrace.
We visited this restaurant again today. We have visited quite a few times and we have never been disappointed. We both had the Flemish stew, it was delicious and was served really quickly. Stew and Belgium beer ... sitting in the centre of Ypres. Thoroughly recommend.
We came across this place and had the lunch option which was steak & chips for €12.90 and the steak was really nice. We were very impressed. Great location and the service was 2 chaps was very good too. Highly recommended
The place is right in the central square. I expected it to be expensive but not so. We had the venison and my husband the hare. Both dishes were exceptional and service was again exceptional and efficient. We found it originally when we wanted to sit down for a beer and came back for our evening meal.
We had dinner here. The service was slow but the food when it arrived was good. The steak was delicious. The prices are a bit on the high side but this restaurant is very close to Ypres and the Menin gate so this may explain the pricing. There is outside heated seating available. Well worth a visit.
we had missed the lunch hr so most restaurants were closed , but Vivaldi do an all day offer . The "delux" burger sounded appealing . my wife had the goats cheese salad and that was a good , but the burger was a disaster . The meat in the bun is from one of those pre-made processors , i suspect frozen and was most unedible . I did give feed back , but it was dismissed because the waiter claimed that his girlfriend made the burgers and therefore could not be bad . Top tip ,,, dont / never order the burger here.
Great place for lunch or dinner, well placed if you like to people watch. Very large indoor area complemented by a covered outside patio area with heaters on a cold autumn day. Food and drinks are average priced for the location and are of good quality and portion
Most of us had the scampi and chips and were satisfied with a tasty well presented dish. Nothing complicated so could't really judge the restaurant. It appeared to lack soul and gave the impression of a tourist restaurant living of its excellent location.
Never been to Ypres before, found this restaurant ny chance, fantastic place. We only had 2 meals in Ypres, both here, short menu for evening food but fantastic, we had Flemish stew and steak one night, great portions, salmon the next visit, large portion of salmon and masses of chips. Everybody speaks English so no problems here. Great service, little amuse bouche before main meal, great Rose 50cl a carafe of 2 glasses. Check out the menu and enjoy yourselves.
This restaurant is in the square, opposite the Cloth Market and is very good for a lunch-time snack or meal. It is clean and the staff are attentive
We have always used Vivaldi when in Ypres. This visit the restaurant is still spotless and comfortable, however, the food is not as good as it used to be. Chicken was tough and the mushroom sauce tasted as if it had come out of a tin. Spaghetti bolognaise was also not as good as it used to be. The restaurant has a captive audience as it is right opposite the Cloth Hall. Food is expensive for what you get.
Nice food, good service and location. Quite pricey though 2 courses wine and a liquer coffee 140 euros for two
If I could sum up our experience in one word, it would be - alright. We stopped here for a late lunch and sat outside watching the square, which was a nice location. The menu looks quite good but only the "snacks" menu was available, we came at an awkward time, which included things like croque-monsieur. I can only comment on what we had which was a croque-madame and croque boem boem (a croque-monsieur with bolognese sauce on the side). Of the croque-monsieurs/madames I've had in my life, which are numerous considering I lived in France, let's just say these wouldn't make the top 10. I would argue these aren't their specialty and it's better to come when the full menu is available. One thing the restaurant can do to help is to inform customers of when certain menus are or aren't available, as we actually had chosen from the main menu not realizing it wasn't available.
Visited on The Friday for drinks late afternoon and enjoyed it so much we ate there at night Revised the following day for drinks Service with a. smile and excellent food The stew was wonderful and my partner said the steak was lovely Big portions served with salad and fries The rose wine was gorgeous
My wife and I sat down here for a beer and a coffee. I guess we should have taken the hint because this restaurant was empty whilst that next door was full. Whilst the beer was good and the coffee excellent and both were reasonably priced and the service good, my wife ordered a Caesar salad which whilst was very well made with lots of chicken but was nonetheless overpriced at 20 Euros,
Cannot comment on food however stopped off here for light refreshments of a couple of beers and coffee. No complaints good setting and prices same as all bars in this area.
It was getting late so thought we would try here. Croquettes were nice, I had “scampi” in garlic sauce (king prawns in garlic butter) with fries which was very nice. My partner had salmon with bernnaise sauce again served with fries which he said was nice. Staff didn’t seem very happy and service was slow.
A group of four of us ate at this over priced restaurant tonight after the remembrance ceremony and despite spending €160, the waiter refused, very rudely, to give us any tap water. I said "may we have a big of tap water as well please" to which he replied "we don't have any tap water only bottled". I then said "well that is clearly not true as you cannot run a restaurant without drinkable water, so may we have some tap water please?" and he stormed off saying "then you will have no water." That is an unbelievable attitude towards paying customers - in 35+ years of eating out around the world, we have never before Feb refused tap water. This meant we couldn't take medication at the correct time, so I am not even going to review the food, simply will say they got no tip, and we usually tip generously, and we will not be eating there again, and recommending to friends and family to eat elsewhere. It is a disgraceful policy which I think should be illegal, if indeed it isn't already. Such a shame as it is in a great location in a beautiful city.
Recently attended the nightly commemoration at the Menin Gate in Ypres and strolled on into the main square, with the intention of eating in one of the many restaurants available, unfortunately we happened to settle upon the Vivaldi.Setting is very nice, beautiful evening, then should have heard the little warning bells, was informed that "we do not serve tap water" ou/oh! Ordered meal with difficulty in attracting a staff member, was served a nice little appetiser, followed by again a good starter, to share. After that it went steadily down hill, fifteen minutes later was informed that the marinated pork ribs which had been ordered as a main was no long available, replaced it with Flemish beef stew with salad ( strange accompaniment to a stew) and chips. We waited a further 30 minutes for the main courses to arrive, the stew and grilled salmon fillet. In fairness the salmon was reported by my companion to be excellent but the stew could only be kindly described as stodgy.By now we had lost interest and passed on the desserts. The wine list was also seriously overpriced for what was on the list and astonishingly Spa sparkling water was more expensive than Coca Cola, the mainly male waiting staff could have done with being spruced up sartorially and the service level needs raising. OK put it down to being a tourist trap, but it leaves a sour taste which I could not wash down with free water!
Dropped in for a quick snack - two croque monsieur and two beers came to over 30 euros. The croques were poor - no topping and not very good cheese. Service was adequate. iIll not be visiting again
This was your typical tourist restaurant. It was well situated around the square and had a nice ambiance. The food was ok. However my big beef is that they would not give us any tap water. Did I have to go into the bathroom to wash my food down? Ridiculous. To the management, does that mean that your tap water is bad? Contaminated? I have been many places and never had to pay for that so it has overshadowed my whole experience. It does not seem to even matter that people really cannot be expected the common courtesy of free tap water. You really need to take a look at your customer service philosophy. I am not a happy camper.
This was a good place for a quick coffee right at the city square. Good food, good service but a bit expensive.
Best mussels in town for only 23 - 26 euros. Drink a Leffe Blond 0,5L ! No reservation needed, central location.
Waitress saw us arriving and the chose not to acknowledge us for about half an hour. Eventually got some drinks and they took our order at roughly the same time. Food is average at best, but the service is so bad. Won't come back. Waitress with bad tattoos bad teeth and bad attitude needs replacing.
sat outside got served with nice ST Bernard beers. ordered Lasagne. over an hour went by and several others after us got meals. so Pam went inside to sort it out, told that fault with ordering phone type pad. no apology no have a beer free and we will sort your meals. so ate the bland meals with no beer. would not use again as much better places in the square
Lovely restaurant and nice staff. Will not allow you to have any tap water, they charge over €8 for a bottle of water.
We chose this restaurant from many others in the main square, and were so happy with our choice. My husband had the scampi in garlic butter....wow! what a tasty treat they were! My entrecote steak was very good, but those scampi were the star of the meal. Every mouthful was savoured. No room for dessert, but the meal was washed down with some excellent beers. The staff were attentive and friendly, never intrusive. The meal wasn't cheap, so we didn't repeat the experience, but we would return on a future visit to Ypres.
Along with my two teenage grandchildren I ate there three times. On the first occasion two of us enjoyed enormous croques on delicious Belgian bloomer bread - the best I have ever tasted. On our second visit we feasted on superb chocolate waffles. Third time we all plumped for Flemish Stew, accompanied by a tasty salad and the obligatory fries. The portions were extremely generous and we all reluctantly admitted defeat. The staff were friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. The general atmosphere was very pleasant.
Shocking. Waited to be served until we asked for any service at all. Ordered croque madam. Egg was broken and rubbery. Asked for replacement. Second egg burnt and overcooked and thrown on the table. Ordered 2 lasagne and a spag bol. Got 2 spag bol and a lasagne. Tried to complain numerous times. Tasteless spag bol and no meat lasagne. Several staff told us not authorised to take orders let alone complaints. Eventually got 2 crap meals off bill, but should have been all. None of the staff gave a sh*t. If you are going to charge a premium for location your food and service should at least be somewhere near that standard. Bad basic food. Simply bad attitude. FYI if in doubt after ignoring us and treating us with contempt for 45 mins. They cleared our table for the next suckers in under 20 seconds.
Ate here prior to the Menin Gate ceremony. Food fantastic, service 'ok'. Prices about right. Steak really good, just emphasise how you want it cooked, I asked for medium, it was well done. Right in the central square, couple of minutes from the gate. Would we go again? Yes, probably for lunch tomorrow!
We ate here as part of a group visiting the Menin Gate Last Post ceremony. Our dinner was an enormous beef casserole with masses of chips and salad. The casserole was served in cash iron dishes, supposedly for two people but easily served three. Sweet was Vienneta ice cream. All most satisfactory and served by young waiting staff. Certainly worth a visit.
Portions were a bit bigger than expected, good. Good ratio of price vs quality. Wifi does not reach the outside tables like it should
We were here as our last evening meal while away in Europe, they had entrecôte steak on the menu which we both decided to have, the meals came out and both steaks were over cooked, unlike in the UK no-one had come over to see everything was satisfactory so I asked a waitress over and explained that the steaks were over cooked, without any apologies she whipped our plates away then came back out from the kitchen saying we had ordered the food like that. Eventually our fresh meals came out again with no apology but even though the steaks were cooked as we asked I couldn’t eat it as it was entirely fatty and covered in thick herbs which overpowered the flavour. I left my steak and when the waiter collected our plates and asked if everything was okay I said no not really to which he just continued clearing up and ignored my statement. It seems that customer satisfaction is unimportant here! When the bill Was presented I asked for some Reduction due to the poor quality of the food and the customer service only to be told that my plate was empty (which it clearly wasn’t as he asked if everything was okay when he saw the steak) and if we didn’t pay the bill he would call the police!! I can’t obviously speak for everything on the menu but that was no entrecôte and I certainly would not recommend this restaurant.
Visited here to have mussells which were nice served with chips, big portions! Serving staff quite slow, not very attentive and seemed rather unhappy in their work.
Although the restaurant was packed service was very fast but it was the only positive in this restaurant. My cafe late was terrible, it didn't taste after coffee, felt like it was just a milk, ice cream although it looked amazing was full of pieces of ice and poorly dissolved powder. Additionally bill was brought when I was eating which was very annoying. I very well understand why payment is requested before guest finish their meal but then the bill should be brought together with the food. Doing so during eating is unprofessional and disturbing.
We found the food and service to be of the expected standard for this type of restaurant. However, we were horrified to see that a fellow diner had brought their dog into the restaurant and allowed it to not only sit at the table where it was hand fed by said owner - but it was also allowed to sit on and walk across the table - we asked our waiter if this was usual practice and he said that it was --- all I can say is that we will never eat at Vivaldi again as we find this practice totally unacceptable and unhygienic to say the least.
Lovely waffles and coffee for a late lunch. Service was good and prompt. Not cheap (but then nowhere in Ypres is as it's such a tourist trap)
We had an hour to eat before we needed to be at the Menin Gate for The Last Post at 8pm. We stopped at the Vivaldi, mainly because it was pouring with rain. The restaurant looks good and has an outside eating area. We ordered one course. Some of us had the stew, others the steak tartare. The order was incorrectly taken and that was sorted. The stew was excellent. Served with well cooked chips and a salad. I thought the salad was poor but I was outvoted. Everyone else thought it was great. Just enough sauce. My wife thought her steak tartare was excellent. Seasoned just enough, more than big enough, and perfect with a few chips. She said it was one of the best she has ever had. The wine was overpriced. Too much for a cheap South American Malbec. All in all we enjoyed it but could have done without the attitude from the waiter.
Pre-booked this restaurant for an 8.15 table. We arrived at 8.10 and 5 staff asked us if we'd reserved before we were actually shown to our table. The waitress asked us what we'd like to drink and said she would come back for our food order. 20 minutes later we were still waiting for her to return. There were plenty of staff all 'looking' very busy but not particularly doing anything. A party of 5 came after us and were served by 3 different staff - our waitress took their order, another provided cutlery and the 3rd served drinks. We decided not to wait any longer and asked our waitress for the bill to pay for drinks. She didn't question why we hadn't ordered food, didn't apologise for not returning for our order and simply gave us our bill and our change. As we were nearly ready to leave a waiter came to take our food order. We explained we'd paid the bill for drinks because we'd waited 25 minutes and he just said 'ok'. Such a shame they couldn't get their act together - simple organisation of staff would make this place a good place to be. Wouldn't recommend at all. Reviews on here back up our disappointment.
22 family members were visiting Ypres to commemorate 100 years anniversary of our Grandfather being killed in action in the Spring Offensive. We booked Vivaldi as the menu looked more varied and we wanted it to be a special occasion. The waitress (tall brunette) made us feel most unwelcome indeed her attitude was extremely brusque and none of our reasonable requests were met. Our total spend was 800 euros. Firstly we asked for tap water but they would only let us have mineral water. Apparently according to the owner this is a Belgium custom and tap water is never available. Ok minor irritation as I feel it's a way of hiking up the bill. Secondly wouldn't agree to a child's portion of Flemish Stew so we had to pay for a full portion. Because it's not on menu couldn't allow it. Thirdly one of the guests missed the deadline for ordering a glass of wine. Till closed so no wouldn't even offer a glass without charging. The owner did say if he had been present he would have agreed to this. Diabolical hospitality. Be also aware if the party consists of more than 4 people you are only allowed to order 4 different dishes. This was the first greeting by the waitress. No pre warning as this booking was made some time prior. The owner stated "he must have forgot!!". What a way to treat customers who are spending a considerable sum and have chosen Vivaldi for a special occasion. Obviously don't care. I have given 2 stars because the food was quite good except someone's steak was very tough. I would avoid plenty of other restaurants to choose from with really friendly service and good food.
Ten of us booked a table. We had heard the food was very good but also a bit pricey - we were prepared to pay a little over the odds for good food and with friends. First problem was they refused to supply tap water to drink. Ok, not too bad. The we discovered they would not split the bill, even just to make 5 payments that totalled the whole bill - not good. The final straw was when they insisted we only selected up to four different dishes from the main menu. For a party of ten that is ridiculous. They would not budge on any of these issues so we walked. Their loss - we had a great time eating and drinking all evening (and spending lots of money) in another restaurant across the square.
Just where we wanted to be on our last night, sitting in a beautiful square watching the world go by. But more importantly to enjoy dinner. Service and atmosphere were great. I was especially impressed by the interior decor. My husband particularly enjoyed his steak, I wish I could say the same for my vegetarian option (vegetable stir fry). Continental restaurants must get to grips with the growing numbers of vegetarians and vegans. Prices seemed a bit excessive, in comparison to French restaurants just a few miles away over the border. But you a probably paying for its location. All in all a nice meal.
Very nice light lunch but rather high price for three pasta dishes drinks and desserts setup Dong were good food was good although pricier than normal
Stopped for a light lunch here, right on main square, and busy with locals having a catch up of brunch and drinks. Service was good and food was good value for money we have the Croque Monsiuer. Was lovely being able to sit outside on a Spring day catching some sun and watching the world go about it's business.
I stopped in for lunch with a colleague as we were on a business trip. The waitress who served us (tall brunette) was extremely rude, to the point where we felt very uncomfortable to be there. She didn't allow us to finish our order before she stormed off. After we ordered what we wanted from the limited menu - the food arrived, and it was actually quite nice. When it came to paying the bill (which was slammed down on the table), we were told that we couldn't split the bill (they don't allow it?!). It was a truly awful experience. I'm sure the restaurant won't care, as they're in a prime tourist spot, but I certainly will not be returning.
Our 2nd night in Ypres & this place was recommended to us as opening early for drinks & food. Really attractive place. We went in quite early (I was with my 2 young teenage children who like to eat around 6pm) & the place was pretty quiet (as expected). Just one server on at 6pm; she was friendly & welcoming. We ordered drinks first & she came back for the food order after 15 minutes. The food was excellent, we all ordered a different Flemish specialty, hot, tasty. The beer menu was quite extensive. As a Brit, I must just comment that I found the food a bit pricey (more expensive than Les Halles up the street where we ate the night before) - most mains 20 Euros or more. However the food was good & when you chose a restaurant in the Grote Markt (main square), that's what you have to expect.
This restaurant is on the main square and we had the special lunch offer of steak frites. It was good and the service was fine. The rest of the menu seemed very expensive but the decor was modern and quite stylish.
Cold evening ...we had just been at the Menin Gate service en route on a river cruise . We asked if they would or could serve gluwein ....Friday of the new year weekend . Settled in a widow table we were a party of six Absolutely no problem great service super ambience was really great ,service was super .
Staying in Ypres as part of a battlefield tour, a number of us went to the Vivaldi Restaurant for dinner. I have been there before and enjoyed it so took a few friends back. Steak was good as was the stew and the mussels.
Steaks excellent which is what earns it three stars. Service was disinterested and let down what could have been a good meal. Avoid the house red wine which is particularly nasty.
I have now lost count of how many times I've eaten here. Food is great, staff friendly, clean & hygienic, disabled friendly. Simply the best food I've eaten in Ypres.
Probably - almost certainly - the very best rump steak I have ever tasted. Locally sourced beef. Amazingly good. Great service too. What is there not to like?
I always have a meal here when I stay in Ypres. The food is always excellent and until this year the service has been good. On this visit the service was 'average'. The staff were young and getting their attention was a hit and miss affair. I felt as if I was getting the way of their private chatting. The food was excellent and I'll go back. One disappointing visit in 10 years still makes it a good restaurant in my eyes.
Good lunch , 2 delicious croque madams with fries and salad , pleasant service , popular with locals and tourists
Rather nice comfortable restaurant alongside the main square. Good menu at reasonable prices with good friendly staff. Especially good early evening to eat and people watch before a visit to the Menin Gate for the Last \post Ceremony.
Was here with friends. Ordered the special burger with fries for €21 which I consider as the tourist trap price. Anyway, at the market in this city Center this is the average price in the restaurants. The burger was not too bad, it came with a crispy bun and crispy bacon, the meat was of good quality and the burger was more then large enough. Extra fries can be ordered at no extra cost. The burger was nice but could have been pushed to another level with some nice sauce. In general I can’t complain, but wouldn’t make a detour for this kitchen either (concidering the prices)
Popped in for a meal before heading up to the Menin Gate for the evening ceremony. Service was quick, albeit off-handed - waitress seemed rather bored and wishing for her shift to finish. However out meals were served quickly and portions were very generous – the pasta dish was so large it beat 1 member of our party… Can highly recommend the Paschendale Beer - flavoursome and appropriate for the location.
This is a very good place to eat if. If you are confused which one to use then try the Flemish Stew here, it is served in a separate pot to a small small salad and a basket of chips. the gravy is heaven and the meat slow cooked to fall apart on your plate. follow this with a coffee with cream and you won't need anything else!
We enjoyed our meals here. Delicious and good portions. Not the cheapest place in Ieper but then again - you're right in the middle of the square. Nice and efficient staff.
Situated on the main square in Ypres, we called in for dinner before the nightly Menin Gate ceremony just up the street. The prices on the menu scared me a bit as I'm cheap - €15 for Spaghetti Bolognaise, €25 for ribs, but the food was good qulaity & huge portions - I got a full tack of ribs. The food was good, service was OK, would go back.
We enjoyed our visit here. It has recently been refurbished and the menu reduced but the food was still good and worth the visit.
The food was good overall but the service was somewhat indifferent. Mussels were disappointingly tough (over-cooked) and gritty. A great location which is very convenient for the Menin Gate.
Perhaps its the rather conservative nature of Belgium cuisine but our meals, while quite delicious, were not spectacular.. about the standard of good home cooking.
The meal was very good but a bit overpriced for the area. However the service was appalling. Bread arriving after main course dispite reminders. Mayonnaise came after reminding. Waitress appeared to spend lots of time on her mobile.
Realtively crowded place and very popular. Food is good but I think they could do better if they tried - but they seem happy enough. Staff efficient but rather impersonal
We went there a few years ago and had a really good meal. This time it was very expensive and not very good. I ordered steak - I was expecting it to be beef, it wasn't bad but I wasn't sure what meat it was? I was charged £1 (1 euro) for tiny bit of ketchup to go with my fries and I was charged £1 (1 euro) for a small amount of mustard. Most probably had about a tablespoon in quantity of each. Very expensive for what it was and the service was average. Waiters and waitresses could have smiled whilst serving us.
Menu has been cut right back, Has been revamped since last year, Decor is now very dark, Meals were ok but service was so much slower than in previous visits. was very disappointed overall as was one we really liked to visit when in Ypres.
This is the second time I've been to this restaurant in the last two months. I've had one of the mussel dishes on each occasion and both times can only say I haven't been disappointed. The chefs special is my favourite
To arrive at 7.30pm and not have your choice of drinks taken until 8.0pm is a poor start. The to wait over half an hour for the main course to arrive (the starters never arrived) is a poor continuation. To have the waiters challenge you is not good customer service. The food was average. The bill was steep. So al in all we did not enjoy Vivaldi. When we commented to a local she said she had only been there once and would never go again. I wish we had asked her first and if we ever visit Ieper again we will not be visiting Vivaldi
