Cars, Trucks & Traffic

The difference between a company car, a truck and a delivery van

For the transportation of goods, you'll need a truck with a maximum allowed weight of more than 3.5 tons. If you do not have the budget, you can choose a used delivery van, trailer optional. Take into account that, according to European legislation, all new delivery vans must be equipped with a digital speedometer and cruise control. Delivery vans manufactured before 2006 are still allowed to be equipped with an analog speedometer. In order to be allowed to drive a delivery van, you'll need the driver's license type C. If you drive with a trailer, you'll need the driver's license type CE. Driving schools offer the opportunity to pass the tests for these driver's licenses. Vehicles with a maximum allowed weight of less than 3.5 tons fall under trucks and private cars or automobiles. You'll need driver's license type B or BE to be allowed to drive these. Besides delivery vans and trucks, automobiles can also be registered as company cars.

Maintenance and repair of your delivery van or truck

Most delivery vans run on a diesel engine. Since delivery vans are used on a daily basis, regular maintenance is necessary. If you are having problems with your clutch, tailboard or gearbox, choose a reliable repair garage with all the necessary equipment. They usually have the right spare parts. Specialized tire centers can recap your worn out tires. Make sure that your truck is never overloaded. If needed, go to a weighbridge, because any fine incurred may be high. And if the body of your truck is damaged, a body repair shop is always in the neighborhood. Not all carwashes have the necessary equipment to wash trucks. Study the offered services well to find out where you can go to have your truck or delivery van washed properly.
