However rural Brakel is in the midst of the Flemish Ardennes, and however large the choice of places to eat, it would seem on Saturday nights it is important to make a booking. Having failed to do that, and having a wedding anniversary to celebrate, we were lucky that someone had just cancelled their table when we enquired at Eekeveld. Despite the very short notice, we were very warmly welcomed and immediately made to feel at home.
We had often driven past and estimated this restaurant might be out of our budget, going by it's curb appeal. Whilst it was indeed a posh place, in its decor, atmosphere, service and food, it was also affordable and most of all the kindness and gentility stood out.
The service was perhaps a bit slow, though this suited the whole style of the evening. In return the quality of the food, fresh produce prepared with dedication and care, and of the service, with great individual attention and natural flexibility, more than made up for it.
We chose one of the menu's which still offered a lot of cboice, and found each and every dish was very finely balanced in its flavours, delicate and delicious, 1nd the portions were good.
Definitely a good place to recommend. We will be going back, and taking other people along.
The only thing we regret is not having gone there sooner and frequently!
