Automobile - Wrecking in Belgium
Cars consist of more than a ton of different materials, which are sometimes harmful to the environment. With regard to environmental policy, the three Belgian regions, the recycling sector and car manufacturers signed an agreement in 1999 that regulates the 'take-back obligation', wrecking and recycling of used cars. Any vehicle that is no longer used must be brought to an authorized recycling company for wrecking. Professional and certified technicians perform the wrecking according to prescribed standards. Car wrecking is done in well-described phases such as removal from the database of registered vehicles, pollution cleanup of the vehicle, removal of the car parts, grinding of decontaminated debris and processing of residual waste to a maximum recycling rate.
