Best hotel I have stayed in as part of a coach tour. Room was spotless, meals and service were excellent. Lovely grounds to this hotel and in a lovely quaint village. Would have been 5 stars but the room was very basic and housekeeping could have been better.

Went with school, pretty average hotel a good place for a good nights sleep, sits on it’s own ground so very quite, if sleeping on top floor be careful not to your head on the curved roof. Toilets have locks, showers don’t , actual door to room locks fine.

I hated it and I got ants in my pants, spiders in my food, especially fruit and veg. I threw up 20 times, I found a fly in my bed and there was blood all over the walls and unknown substances on the door handles

Wandelweekend met de club , uitstekend hotel voor een groep, zeer lekkere en meer dan voldoende keuken, van ontbijt over snack tot diner. Zeer vlotte en vriendelijke, behulpzame bediening Enkel de kamers en vooral de badkamers zijn aan een update toe. Ideaal gelegen voor knooppunten wandelingen in een historische dorpskern.

I went on a school trip and the hotel was alright I stayed on the top floor with the angled ceiling and it was warmer in the room than outside. Food was minging The lock to the bathroom didn't work But in the end it's alright

We went on our France and belguim trip, location is very good and near all history trips, negative side to it is, they don’t speak English the food isn’t that good nor the water, bedroom is small for loads of people

Mixed feelings about this hotel. Sits in its own grounds in the sleepy Belgium town of Lo. Building has bags of character and is in a nice setting - its a converted brewery next to the town church. The restaurant is quite big - the usual continental breakfast BUT the evening meals here are very good - very good indeed. This is only spoilt by the number of flies buzzing around the place - they really should do something about that. My room was small with a sloping wall - very spartan - no air con - window had an insect mesh over it so I could air the room. Bathroom had a bath with a shower attachment. My room was not adequately cleaned - bed made so to speak but the bathroom left as it is. Others complained about this too - I heard them in the bar. Also, the hotel has a wing for parties of school children - they were rowdy early evening.

Het personeel is super vriendelijk. Het ontbijt is goed, niets op aan te merken. We verbleven in familiekamer nr:59. € 150 voor 5 personen, inclusief ontbijt. Zeer scherpe prijs. De kamer heeft dringend nood aan wat opwaardering. Zeker de badkamer: jammer genoeg schimmel op de muur en in de douche. Een nieuw douchegordijn is ook een must.

This was my 3rd stay at the hotel and I will be booking again. We use it as our base where we meet up with friends and explore the World War 1 history of the area. It is an extremely warm and friendly place with great staff and service. The food was lovely and I can certainly recommend their interpretation of a Flemish Stew. The bar is a lovely social area with a good selection of our favourites. “Jupiter Calling”. Well worth a visit.

Very good hotel, 3 course meals that are very tasty, excellent staff! Even though we were with a large group, they took care of us in a very friendly manner. Lindsay is a true jewel! Also ample parking!

In het restaurant was het alleen 1 menu, dus geen enkele keuze, maar het was geweldig! Alleen daarvoor komen wij al eens terug. Kamer eenvoudig maar voldoet en is schoon, voor 1 of 2 nachten prima. Medewerkers zeer gastvrij en vriendelijk. Dit plekje is een aanrader!

Contente de l’accueil, propreté de la chambre. Personnel très serviable, merci au cuisinier particulièrement sympathique. Chambre rénovée, salle de bain rénovée et très propre. Chambre spacieuse. Déjeuner continental complet avec œufs brouillés, lard, œuf à la coque, sans oublier les viennoiseries et cake aux pommes, fruits, petits pains et assortiments salés. Très heureuse d’avoir pu loger à cet endroit. J’y reviendrai.

Stayed 4 nights on a Leger Battlefield tour. We received a very warm welcome from all the staff at this friendly family run hotel. Apparently they haven't had a coach stay for 2 and a half years and were overjoyed to see one returning. The hotel is set in pleasant grounds. Free Wi-fi works well. Hairdryer supplied and a Kettle tray with Tea/Coffee etc is available on request. Breakfast spread was a little limited with not much cereal selection. It was Corn Flakes and Muesli. However there was a good selection of different Breads and Rolls. The set menu for Dinner was very good value at €29 for 3 courses very tasty and large portions. There is a great selection of Belgian beers in bottles and one draught option. I did try to work my way down the list and wish I had a longer stay to complete the task! Onto the bad points which lead to a 4 rather than 5 star rating. The walls were paper thin, we could hear everything going on in the adjacent rooms. at one point we actually thought the man next next door was in our bathroom! The shower arrangement is not very good and the bath is very slippery which made it precarious to get in and out safely. We did ask for a Bath mat which the hotel were happy to supply but it didn't work very well. Finally the radiator was very noisy when we flushed the toilet or ran the taps. However we did enjoy our stay and would love to visit again.

We verbleven drie dagen met een grote vriendengroep in De Oude Abdij. Het hotel is uitstekend geschikt voor groepen en het personeel is bijzonder vriendelijk en gedienstig. Aanrader voor wie de streek rond het mooie stadje Lo wil verkennen.

Moderne inrichting in een rustig kader. Directie en personeel is heel vriendelijk en gedienstig. De maaltijden zijn ruim en kwalitatief, ontbijt zeer uitgebreid. TV en internet op de kamer. Men is er diervriendelijk, kleine vergoeding voor hondje op de kamer.

Dit typisch hotelletje ligt op een prachtige locatie, midden in het centrum van Lo, maar zonder verkeersdruk of andere storende geluiden. De bediening is heel goed en al het personeel is heel vriendelijk. Het ontbijt en het avondmaal smaakten overheerlijk. Goede kok!

Tip: van maandag tot woensdag half pension met vast dagmenu @ 29 €. Heel lekker en grote porties. Heel vriendelijk personeel. Mooi gelegen voor fietstochten in de omgeving Rustig en toch in het centrum .......’.’

Best place I have ever stayed no doubt about it the rooms were excellent for raving the staff were so kind, the soup tasted like pot noodles (a good thing) and our stay was legendary. The ladders for the beds are the perfect size to fit people in for a conga line, the showers were of the highest quality, the breakfast was beyond compare and there were no bodily fluid stains on my bed, which was on fact very comfortable. The stairs were slightly haunted and the meat was covered in mushroom sauce (controversial) but other than that i wouldn’t change a thing. We even got up at 5a.m to enjoy some aqua aerobics in the pond. Five stars doesn’t even come close to describing how I feel about this place I’ll miss you oude can’t wait to come back

Het was een babyborrel met alles erop en eraan: Heerlijke hapjes en heerlijk gegeten. Het personeel is zeer vriendelijk. Het was zeer aangenaam vertoeven. De kindjes vonden de pingponghoek super. Ze hebben zich niet verveeld.

I recently stayed here as leader of a school party touring the Flanders battlefield sites. I had not stayed here before and was a little worried based on some of the reviews. I can say without question this is the best accommodation I have experienced for school groups. I usually experience basic canteen food and small cramped rooms but this could not have been more different. The rooms are very clean and spacious, some with newly refurbished showers. The food was fantastic. Each evening meal was a 3 course dinner with soup, meat and veg plus a pudding. My pupils did not moan once. Breakfast was continental and had lots of choices. The staff were very helpful and always dealt with any requests without argument. We shall be booking another trip in the future and I will request this hotel.

Lovely hotel and the staff was absolutely brilliant. The food was absolutely lovely. The only downside was the showers in the room, but they had a bath if you needed it. Lovely surroundings in the village if you wanted to go for a little stroll.

The hotel is very comfortable, cleaning and quiet. As the village of Lo is sleepy to say the least. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially to the requirements and requests of the guests. The food including breakfast and dinner were excellent and not at all expensive. There is also a full bar full of great Belgian beer, wines and spirits. A very nice stay and a lovely surprise. If your on a WW1 or WW2 tour or just enjoying Belgium with family this is great choice!

Als verrassing voor de verjaardag van ons mama hadden we geboekt in dit hotel met 9 personen. S avonds gingen we eten in restaurant de hooipiete aan de fintele. We wilden graag per taxi naar het restaurant maar daar waren geen taxis mogelijk. Toen heeft de uitbater van het hotel ons zelf naar het restaurant gebracht en terug komen halen. Topservice! Ook de bar is heel gezellig.

Requested a vegetarian dish and was giving meat instead, then I asked nicely for a vegetarian for a second time and given it w/ a shrug and no apology. If simply dietary requirements can’t be fulfilled how can more important things be completed

Het was voor onszelf en ons gezelschap een heel tof weekend met lekker eten en heel vriendelijke bediening. De kamers zijn ruim en proper, een heel ruime en nette badkamer. Misschien een voorstel om een vliegenhor te installeren en misschien nieuwe matrassen, voor de rest echt niets op aan te merken.

Mooi omgeving, ruime parking. Veel ruimte in de publieke delen van het hotel. Lekker en uitgebreid ontbijt. Leuke bar. Geen wifi in de kamer. Sommige dakkamers heel warm. Familiekamer met totaal 6 bedden en 2 douches in orde. Mooie korte wandeling in de omgeving van het hotel.

I recently stayed here at this hotel during a Leger tours Dunkirk trip. Naturally I was a little worried having read a few negative reviews. BUT I can honestly say I loved this hotel. My room was a double room very spacious, clean and comfortable. I read the warnings about the mossies but I didn't encounter any and this was during a very hot spell mid-August 2019. The hotel staff will hand you a plug-in mossie zapper and also a fan for extra comfort in your room. But you must ask. Lovely breakfast and the various breads are to die for. Very nice dinners with table dote at EUROS 22. Wine exceptional.

Stayed 4 nights with a Battlefield tour. I was somewhat concerned by previous reviews, but need not have worried. This was a perfectly adequate hotel; the room was comfortable, and adequately fitted. The bathroom was a bit 'old fashioned' (bath with hand-held shower) but it all worked. The food offering was good, albeit not a big choice of dishes; enjoyable eating. And the staff were friendly and helpful. There was no kettle provided, but the hotel guide indicated that one could be borrowed. It would have been helpful to know this in advance. A good hotel for a few nights stay.

We stayed for 5 nights with friends from a choir. The hotel could not have been better. The food was exceptional the rooms well equipped and comfortables the staff friendly, and helpful. The hotel is situated in a lovely village perfectly situated for a tour of Flanders. Thoroughly recommended.

Stayed as part of a group, having been allocated this hotel by the tour company, and had pretty low expectations after reading some of the reviews on here. We were very pleased to find clean, simple accommodation, very pleasant and obliging staff and good food. If you're hoping for fluffy towels, gourmet meals etc look elsewhere. You can get fans and plug-in mosquito zappers from reception (needed both when we stayed there). Free internet which worked fine, unlike some hotels we've been in. The village is very quiet and pretty, with cobbled streets and has a small supermarket, a bakery and a chemist. We enjoyed our stay.

We stayed in a double room during a Leger Battlefield tour and I could not fault the hotel. Very comfortable bed and all of the food was really nicely prepared. I was a little worried when I saw some reviews on here but I was pleasantly surprised by the hotel and its very friendly staff.

Stayed here as part of a school group, ideal for us. Cereal and breads for breakfast, DIY packed lunch, 3 course evening meal. Friendly and helpful staff, lovely surroundings with plenty of space. Bedroom clean and comfy. Just a warning, lots of mosquitos but that's not the hotel's fault! Would return with pleasure.

The hotel was an utter disgrace. There was no air conditioning/fan in 30-degree c heat. Really noisy at night. There we key locks to the bathroom doors but the hotel didn't give them to us to use. Our bathroom had a small door with no lock entering the loft conversion where it looked like somebody was staying/sleeping. Old school books, clothing it was horrible. Food was utterly disgusting and would never recommend this hotel to somebody on business, a family, a school or anything else. It is horrible - should be shut down.

I stayed here this week with work.. I’m a coach driver there was two of us and 55 guests with us. I can’t find a single fault with this hotel ! The staff are extremely polite and helpful always a smile to be given nothing was a problem, the room we were given was beautiful, clean/tidy and the food was by far the best food I’ve had from a hotel... which shows it’s run by special people when they are catering for this amount of people. I would certainly be happy to stay here for a break with my own family... 10/10 from us and a huge thank you for making us feel welcome.

Foosty smell everywhere, food was near inedible, no ac, and the water was cloudy. I wouldn't stay here again if I was payed to. Our room had a TV which didn't work and even had someone write on the bed frame saying "I lost my v-card here and I'm proud". The shared showers are weird as well but not a big deal

Had to take a shower with a friend, no air condition and the water was disgusting also the stench in the rooms is horrendous like having to share a room with Michel Jackson. Also someone lost their v card in my bed

The rooms were overall OK and well equipped, and very clean. However, our evening meal was a different story. We had chicken with a mushroom sauce which was vile. Breakfast very limited. We will not be back.

Stayed as part of a leger tour.Rooms basic but clean and tidy, looks as if whole hotel has been done up.Staff friendly and food very good, they had a set menu 3 course for 22 euro as well.Nice location for a walk into the town with a few other places to drink etc but we stayed in hotel.I had an attic room which was on top floor all to myself with 3 beds in it,bathroom with shower.Small bar area but you can sit in lounge area so no real issue.Would happily stay there again.

A nice peaceful hotel. Stayed for 3 nights with the Leger battlefield tour. My only gripe is there is no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms. They will give you a kettle if you ask for one, but no tea, coffee or milk and there is no local shop. And I do like a cuppa tea in the mornings.

Stayed at this lovely hotel for 3 nights, food excellent, staff very friendly and helpful. Would recommend it . Very quiet , Lo is picturesque and ideally located for Ipres and battelfields. Will certainly return someday

Stayed here during our Ledger trip to Ypres for the Remembrance weekend. Lovely little hotel in a quiet town. The hotel facilities and food, we had one meal at night and breakfast on 3 mornings, was very good. Plenty of choice on the breakfast, apart from no full English, which didn't concern us but I know some people crave for them lol. The room was clean and well furnished, word of warning though you may want to turn the radiators down because they soon make the room overly hot. Overall though a very nice hotel and would definitely stop there again and recommend to others.

A really great choice if travelling with a big group. Staff are very friendly and accommodating. There are large rooms for dining for big parties and a games room. There is also a separate bar area and a quiet eating area if you are there at the same time as big parties but in a small group yourself. The food was very enjoyable. The rooms are very spacious with en suites, televisions and plenty of storage space.

Stayed here with Leger for a battlefields tour. It's a perfectly adequate hotel, but the location is a bit quiet. There are 3 bars in walking distance, which seem to open on an ad hoc basis. There may or may not be another restaurant in the village - again, it seems a bit ad hoc. My major gripe with the hotel though is the lack of proper shower in the too. I really can't be doing with kneeling down in the bath to shower. However, if you're happy to stay in the hotel to eat every night, and you prefer a bath, then I'd say this hotel is good for you.

Het is leuk gelegen, vlak naast de mooie kerk met barokke elementen. Goed ontbijt + microgolfoven voor de extra's. Ideaal verblijf voor IIF marathon. Wij logeerden er met 30 personen. Je kan vanaf 7 uur ontbijten. De kamers zijn basic maar zeker in orde.

Very basic facilities. Packed lunches poor for €8. Room very stuffy so opened the window and that let at least 15 mosquitoes in. It took me the whole week to catch them all. Came back with over 50 mosquito bites!!!!!!

The place looks very grand from the outside, and is large, but, from the inside visibly characters less, devoid of personality, and colourless. Very large reception, dining area, both inside, and the huge conservatory. All in different shades of brown pine. On arrival, first off the lady at reception, who spoke not a word of English, could not find our booking, then later on, by a young barman, we were informed. No food was being cooked at the hotel, as the chef was ill. So it was out for a meal that evening. Now to our bedroom, huge!! As was the double bed. No wardrobe, just a few hangers on a frame, 2 very small wall tables, with shelves, no mirror except one in the bathroom, 2 bedside cabinets, and a tv. All painted grey, with pine boarding behind the bed, no pictures. Boring or what! And just to add to the lack luster colour scheme, all the corridors reminded us of a hospital, brown, and cream. Then to cap it all on checking out we were unable to settle our bar bill ( b & b room paid on line at time of booking) as another lady who sees to this was also ill. We await to see what happens there. So how the other 18 guests settled their accounts it would be interesting to know. All in all, despite the staff being friendly, and the breakfast continental breakfast being ok. We will not be returning.

Super stay for 4 days by 46 of us from Scotland attending the British Legion Pilgrimage in Ypres. Every detail was first class (room, food, bar, staff was perfect). Hope to return in the not to distant future. Thanks to all who made this memorable visit.

Led a group of Royal British Legion members who were attending the Pilgrimage in Ypres. We were billeted in this hotel. Staff could not have been more friendly or helpful, especially for a dietary request and room requests. The food was provided to tight requirements for cost. Despite this the food was excellent, and again special requests were immediately catered for. A particularly thirsty crew, the bar was heavily utilised and copped admirably. For a group like mine (47, all adults) highly recommended.

This is my third visit with a group of young people The staff are always helpful and friendly which when you have teenagers around isnt the easiest thing The food is always really good and the setting is such a peaceful place to relax after a busy day touring

Stayed for 3 nights from 20th July 2018 on a Leger Battlefields tour. The hotel was lovely. Very friendly staff. Breakfasts were very good, including boiled & scrambled eggs. Dinners were fantastic - large portions, lovely food, beautifully presented. Choice of a 3 course set meal for 20 euros or good a la carte selection. My single room was very comfortable with a good bath - shower difficult as no curtain. Great to have BBC1 & 2 on the TV. Only problem was that the room was hot & difficult to leave the window open because of the mosquitoes. I took a travel kettle so that I could make coffee in the room. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay

All food is inedible, I found brown and red stains on my bedding, staff are disrespectful and WiFi is poor. I came as a part of a school trip and I’m absolutely appalled!!!! I’m going to file for my money back it’s atrocious

Stayed here for tabout four years now, with School Battlefield Tours. Rooms are basic but clean and fit for purpose. The location is very good - away from the hustle and bustle of a main town and all the problems that causes while trying to supervise kids! Food again is basic but does the job - staff get far better fare than the kids (and wine!). Staff are very friendly and helpful. Not sure if I'd stay here in term time, mainly due to the large number of school parties it caters for (at least 120 students on my last visit) but would be happy to at other times.

Had 5 days at this hotel on a Dunkirk Battlefield tour , with leger excellent trip, nice little hotel, friendly staff, . Beds nice & comfy . Hotel spotless, free Wi Fi. Evening meal 20 euros, breakfast very good. Bar prices very reasonable. Great location .Would go again

Nous étions un groupe de 47 personnes et je n ai que des compliments à faire ! Tant pour la préparation de notre réunion que le jour même, j admire les multiples efforts et concessions faites par les patrons. La nourriture était excellente, l accueil convivial et chaleureux. Une adresse que nous gardons dans notre liste, que nous recommandons et nous reviendrons.

Bij aankomst de receptie moeten bellen kwam maar niemand kijken... En eens op de kamer dachten we wat is dit hier... vreselijke kamers heel anders dan de foto's op de site... nooit meer! Is echt zijn geld niet waard!

Just returned yesterday from a battlefield trip to Dunkirk with leger holidays and we stayed in this hotel. Lo itself is a small but pretty village with a few bars but most on our trip ate and drank at the hotel both were very enjoyable and cannot fault. All the staff were very friendly & helpful and even came out to our bus to say farewell which is a nice touch! Only recommendation would be to add a shower curtain in the room and maybe offer tea / coffee facilities in the room. Apart from that a very enjoyable stay, thank you!!

The Old Abbey hotel has friendly and courteous staff. The room I had was quiet, clean, comfortable and spacious. The food was good, verging on excellent and very generous. The bar offers at least two Belgian beers. What more can one ask for? Mosquitoes? What mosquitoes? I would happily stay here again in future.

Good place to stay with a school group for exploring cemeteries in the Flanders area of Belgium. Basic accommodation but clean and friendly. Continental breakfast, Bar area, good parking facilities. Generally all ok

Very welcoming, relatively clean, with very good buffet breakfast and good evening meals. We were on a WW1 battlefield trip and it was a very good base for us. Staff were excellent and the Lo-Renninge was good to walk round.

The hotel is set up to mainly cater for school parties but does take private bookings to. The rooms do vary in quality but are clean and adequate for a few nights stay; some are more basic and a little dated. The food in the hotel is good quality and a typical continental breakfast is available. Be aware if you are unlucky with the school parties staying there at the time it could be a little noisy.

Well I was going to write a nice review but sadly not. It's currently 23.30 and there are group of very loud adults shouting and laughing in reception area as they have been for the last 3hrs. Sleep is out of the question. The staff have done nothing to stop this. Disgusting!!! Never again.

Visited last week with Leger. Room very good size and clean, I had number 15, massive for one person. Breakfast was superb and I can't think of anything bad to say. Evening meal is based around a set €20 3 x course meal, those I dined with were extremely happy, as a vegetarian I couldn't do that, but the waitress did show me the standard menu and there are things I could have that were very nice. Good quality and generous portions. Beers were €3-4 and very reasonable. Hotel is in very small village in middle of nowhere so not really any option to eat or drink 'out'. Staff speak good English If I had any gripe whatsoever it would be the fact there is a big pond out the back and I got eaten alive, so I'd pack some anti 'midges' spray or similar. Can't comment on value as it was a package price for me. I would definitely recommend the hotel

Great place to stay when with a school trip, very acomadating and couldn't do enough to support us during our stay. Much better food than your average trip and the rooms were decent and clean as well. In comparison to other trips this was luxury. Breakfast was ample and served in good time. Staff were very good with a large number of teenagers, handled hiccups well. Need catches on large windows on the rooms the can access the roof! Separate dining and leisure area for the school trips that closes off to the main dining area to keep noise levels down. Packed lunch provided was ample for our needs. Lovely games area and garden. Short walk into local town with cafes and bar. Last night evening entertainment was a karaoke, kids loved it. Not a place for a romantic weekend when the schools are on site!

Stayed 12-16 June 2017 during a Leger Dunkirk and Fortress Europe Battlefield tour. Staff friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast buffet. Ate from the set menu each evening - the food was delicious, well cooked, well presented with quick service. A small beer each evening was 2 Euros 20 cents, very reasonable I thought. My room (24) was on the 2nd floor overlooking the pond. The weather was too hot to have the window shut and I got some quite nasty mozzie bites despite there being a plug-in anti insect thing provided in the room. The room itself was stiflingly hot, air was not moving and I poured sweat incessantly. A fan in the room would have made a massive difference to my comfort. The room was well appointed, the bed very comfortable. The shower in the bathroom was over the bath with no shower curtain so I had to be careful and creative in my use of it not to flood the bathroom. My only one cause for complaint I have is that each night there was very loud music blaring from the hotel bar until well after 11pm which I did not think was fair on hotel guests tired after a long day touring and another long day the next but sleep was not possible until the music ended. Internal noise was minimal in the hotel, shame about the bar music!

We recently visited and stayed here in this hotel, on arrival it was evident that it was a lovely hotel and the staff were so friendly to us. They couldn't have done more for us! I would recommend this to anyone, I would stay there for a personal visit too as there is just such lovely grounds, a nice town nearby and the food was delicious! I loved the bar area and for teachers this is just ideal as it gives you some time away from the kids. The table tennis area for the kids was superb and exactly what they need, so many school trip hotels don't have a hang out area for the kids so this was excellent for them. Vending machines were there too for when they wanted extra sugar! I really have nothing negative to say about this hotel and I can't believe some people on here have, some people just shouldn't go abroad I think! As this hotel was exactly what we needed and it offered extras which meant a lot like free wine for staff at dinner. Thank you so much we had the most amazing time there and I wished I was still there!

We have just returned from a stay at Oude Abdij after visited the hotel some 13 years ago. We were even allocated the same room (No.3), the hotel has however undergone a bit of transformation and modernisation since then. It is situated in the small but pretty agricultural village of Lo, consequently there is not much in the way of amenities within walking distance of the hotel. There are a couple of restaurants, bars and a boulangerie but that is about it. The surrounding area is quiet so plenty of walks can be undertaking without encountering loads of traffic. The Hotel itself is set in pretty walled grounds with a large pond and an ornate pigeon loft. The building is fairly open plan on the ground floor, consisting of a large dining area and reception with a separate bar area and a small private quiet/meeting room area. There is also an annex to the main hotel which seems to be predominately used by schools. Our large room was very pleasant, clean with contemporary decoration and storage space in abundance. The room comes with satellite TV and a hairdryer. The bathroom has a shower linked to the taps, without a slip mat or shower curtain as en-vogue with continental hotels. Getting to sleep was a chore, granted the evenings were hot but there seemed to be underfloor pipes running under our room which tended to heat up the floor at nights made things worse. The food was lovely and plentiful. Breakfast was traditional continental with cold meats, eggs, bread, cereals, yogurts, juices and cakes!! Toast making facilities were available. The evening meal was either a 3-course set meal (20 Euros) or something from the al-a-carte menu. The food was delicious, well priced and very well presented. Couldn’t fault the service from the staff they were very helpful. Like others have said they went out their way to help and also spoke very good English. There is also a nice outside bar terrace for late night conversations and the odd glass or two. The bar is well stocked with about 20 good Belgian Beers at excellent prices. I think the most expensive beer was 4 Euros. I would happily go back to experience more charm and warmth.

Looks as if it had been recently renovated, rooms clean and well serviced. Staff very helpful and breakfast typical continental with cheese ham etc. Great beer of course! Wel positioned in centre of town.

Stayed for a week as part of Leger holidays Dunkirk and Fortress Atlantic tour. Room was well appointed and clean and all the staff were pleasant, attentive and engaging. They were very obliging giving extra attention to printing boarding passes and sorting a mosquito problem We had four breakfasts, all excellent and three evening meals. The meals were very nice and not exoebnsivecwhetger a lar carte or fixed. Highly recommended.

We have just stayed at this great hotel on another battlefield tour and were amazed at the quality ,the marvellous food and the staff who could not do enough for us.Our room (no 16)turned out to be the only one with a balcony-which we took full advantage of. Could not fault this!

Dit hotel is gelegen in een pittoreske omgeving, naast de kerk van Lo-Reninge ! Niet aan te raden als je eens wil uitslapen want meneer pastoor luidt z'n klokken om klokslag acht uur. Als je dan wakker word hoor je de buren doorspoelen en douchen dat het een lieve lust is, behalve dan voor de uitslapers..... Het ontbijt is voldoende en alles is vers. Zeer mooie omgeving, afgezien dan van het kerkhof als je buiten loopt richting dorpscentrum. Evenwel mooi hotel voor wie op doortocht is of te gebruiken als uitval basis.

Nice hotel. Good location. Friendly staff, Food very nice. I would most certainly stay there again. Some people may think a little " basic", but I always say if you have a clean bed, a bath/shower, and decent food all at a reasonable price, that is all you need eh?

We stayed here for four nights during this past week and can were delighted with everything. The room, the food, the bar and all the wonderful, helpful and friendly staff make this a brilliant place to spend a few days. Often, when Leger parties are in hotels, the whole party are herded together and made to feel less welcome than other guests; however, the Oude Abdij really makes its guests feel valued and extends superb hospitality and we would whole-heartedly recommend a stay there to anyone. The only negative (which we did mention on our departure) is the sound-proofing between the room walls needs to be increased, as during the night it can wake you up if the adjoining room is using the bathroom or watching TV. Please try this hotel - the set price evening meals are exceptional value and the bar prices very reasonable - one of the best 3* hotels we have ever stayed in.

We have used this hotel for many years since the 90s it is a good base for battlefield tours and we have been twice with. Veterans groups but. We travel ad individuals. Usually The hotel has now been "handed" over to Lyndsy. & Phillip. Who have changed the decor and more to comce.we can't fault this hotel at all

Stayed in this lovely hotel with a Leger battlefield group and must say I can really recommend it. Lovely staff, lovely food , both very reasonably priced . Rooms decent sized. Would be more than happy to stay there again.

I stayed 2 nights at the hotel as part of a school WWI battlefields trip and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the accommodation was for the price of the trip altogether. It boosts a beautiful exterior which was a good start and I stayed in a dorm of 6 on the first floor which could maybe do with a facelift in places but was nonetheless clean. The beds were extremely comfortable which was ideal after such a long trip and a nice hot shower both mornings was appreciated. The evening meal was fine and the soup was excellent! By far the best thing about the Oude Abdij was its location; the charming small village of Lo-Reninge. Handily, it was just minutes away from the towns of Poperinge and Ypres as well as French attractions such as vimy, thiepval and Arras. It was also within reasonable distance of Calais' Europort. Overall a pleasant stay.

As with most people who stay at the hotel it is whilst with Ledger. Nice friendly family run hotel. Needs a little bit of face lift and a lick of paint, it is clean good food (no fancy stuff ). Little bit of caution , there is a lake by the hotel which attracts midges , the rooms have insect repellent that you plug in , but a little extra of something would help. Special thanks to Lyndsey for the cakes.

We had a great time yet again, this time there were 18 of us in the party with are Classic Cars and we all had a super time, The Oude Abdij "The Old Abbey" improves every time we visit which has now been over 15 years and we will be back again next year. The food was superb, the staff were as always very, helpful and friendly.

Het hotel is rustig gelegen in een grote tuin met waterpartijen. Tijdens de warme dagen zijn er wel veel muggen en gezien de vensters van het hotel niet voorzien zijn van vliegenramen, heb je wel last van die beestjes op de kamer! Het eten, zowel ontbijt als avondeten, zijn zéér goed en lekker. Het personeel is zéér vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Al je vragen worden ingewilligd. Het is ook heerlijk vertoeven op het grote terras .

I live in England and stayed here for 2 nights while on a school WW1 Battlefields Trip. I was in a party of 40 and i stayed in room 42 which had 5 beds, a TV, wardrobe, desk and own bathroom. The room was very clean as was the bedding, we had a sky light window that we opened at night as it was June and warm at night. There was plenty of food so we didn't go hungry and we made a sandwich to take for our lunch. There is a pretty lake in the hotel grounds that we enjoyed walking round. The hotel is in a quiet village which was fine for us as we had a coach to take as to all the WW1 sights. Free internet was handy. Staff were very friendly and i enjoyed my stay.

We were on Dunkirk and fortress Europe tour with ledger holidays and this hotel is used by them, the room was clean but was a bit dated the real let down was the bathroom it did have a shower but no curtain /rail so you had to strand in the bath and shower yourself water went everywhere every day . The breakfast was a continental breakfast which was great and the set evening meal for £18 euros for 3 courses was also very good the staff where very helpful and the bed did not look that comfortable but I did have a good night sleep every night. The hotel is in a small village which was like a ghost town at night but we did go for walks every night over to the next village’s and there where the same but was quite nice to get out rather than sitting in the hotel drinking. The hotel was great for what we needed nothing special but would stay here again if I needed a base as very close to the French border and a good location for people wanting to see the sites of ww2 .

Je kan hier best lekker eten, én gevarieerd als je een aantal dagen komt! De kamers zijn proper en alles is aanwezig! Mooie locatie om van hieruit de omgeving van Ieper te verkennen! Wél veel Engelsen maar het waren geen luidruchtige mensen!

Voor een fietsweekend in de Westhoek hadden we de Oude Abdij uitgekozen als uitvalsbasis en we hebben het ons niet beklaagd. Het was in de eerste plaats een ideaal startpunt voor onze fietstochten: een ritje naar zee, een ritje naar het Heuvelland met de Kemmel, Zwarte Berg, Rode Berg, Catsberg, enz ... tot een stuk in Frankrijk. En van bij de start zit je telkens op heel rustige wegen. Het hotel ligt op een mooi domein met ruime parking vooraan en reuze terras achteraan. Onze fietsen konden trouwens "overnachten" in een ruime afgesloten berging. De kamers met ontbijt zijn ongelooflijk scherp geprijsd. Toch zijn de kamers heel netjes met een heel nette badkamer. Elke dag werden de bedden opgemaakt en de handdoeken vervangen. En voor zij die graag even "chillen" op de kamer: er is Telenet digitale TV op de kamers. Ook het avondeten was telkens een voltreffer.en in de bar was het nadien heel gezellig. Ik ben zelf geen bierdrinker, maar mijn fietsvrienden waren vol lof over de grote keuze bieren aan democratische prijzen. Ook bij het ontbijtbuffet ontbrak niks. Maar wat we nog het meest gaan onthouden is de vriendelijkheid van de eigenaren en het personeel. Bovendien waren ze heel meegaand in alles wat we vroegen. Kunnen we vanavond vroeger eten? Geen probleem. Kunnen op de laatste dag nog even douchen na onze fietstocht? Opnieuw geen probleem. En zo ging het maar door. Het verblijf is ons zo goed bevallen dat sommigen al plannen maken om nog eens terug te komen met familie of vrienden.

When we arrived at this hotel on the coach, tired and looking forward to a rest we were pleasantly surprised by the charming rural exterior. We thought it a bit odd that there were no reception staff but our team leader sorted out our keys and we made our way to Room 16. All my hopes of a comfortable three night stay were dashed as I opened the door. The room was cold, dark dreary tired and depressing. The brown curtains had lines of moth holes in them. The dark cold stone flagged floor made the room chilly and the two bedside rugs were grubby. There were three lights in the ceiling but only two worked and they provided only dim light. The bedside lights had large protruding light bulbs in them and were as a result blinding. The bed was very low. It was covered with a mattress protector which was under a fitted pink nylon sheet. The combination of which made for a sweaty, and noisy sleeping experience. The shower was good and plenty of hot water, however it was very disconcerting to have a floor to ceiling window in a ground floor bathroom, which enabled one to sit on the toilet and look at the car park and vice versus, unless the thin curtains were tightly and very carefully closed, which in turn made the light level in the bathroom very low. The sleeping experience was also affected by noisy plumbing from the two floors above, and the lack of sound proofing between rooms, which meant we could hear everything our friends were saying in the adjacent room. The ceiling decoration of Room 16 is beyond description as it is a combination of dreary rural scenes and burnt umber ragrolling. When laying looking up at this ceiling all the rural scenes were the wrong way up. The bathroom had clearly been installed at a later date to the decoration on the ceiling and this resulted in the decorative angels being cut into in a rather bizarre fashion. Breakfast was acceptable with plenty of good and lots of choice. We had one good plain evening meal of salads and omelettes which the hotel staff produced at very short notice.

Met onze club 4 dagen gaan fietsen in de Westhoek. Goed hotel gelegen in een rustige omgeving. Ideaal voor fietsers, zoals ons zelf, ruime fietsenstalling ter beschikking. Ook voor mensen die de Westhoek willen verkennen is het een goede locatie (op 10km van Diksmuide, 20km van de zee, 20km van Ieper) Kamers hebben alles wat je nodig hebt. Lekker, veel en verzorgd eten. En vriendelijk personeel!!

This is a nice hotel situated close to Ypres in a lovely little village. It was clean had good food and friendly staff and seems to be the ideal place for people on biking trips. Would recommend it no problem.

I was there on a school battlefield trip for 3 nights, so I am gonna summaries the experience for you. Our trip was cheap so I didn't really expect much luxury, but before going on the trip when I read the reviews on here I was concerned, due to the awful reviews, however overall it wasn't a horrific experience. Don't get me wrong, there is room for improvement, and lots of it, but the hotel is livable. Before I start here is what you need to know: Wifi password 12345678 Bring your own pillow Bring lots of snacks and money to buy stuff while you're out One of the people in your room bring a hand soap to share Anyways, I was lucky enough to be put in what our teacher informed us to be the newer part of the hotel (which is split into two buildings) which meant that the showers were decent (the curtain however was flimsy and allowed water through easily). If you are on the ground floor of the building there is a chance that your phone (or whatever else) may connect to the awful wifi, if not, its down to the sitting area- into which ALL schools are forced. there are two ping pong tables, a few uncomfy sofas and a few other feeble attempts at entertainment. You also eat there.... and have to follow the hotels 'strict' rules, which were something as follows: everyone out by 10, no one can wear pjs (people did, but we weren't supposedly allowed) and a few other odd ones. This area was supposedly the best place for wifi, however the wifi was awful, barely enough to load Snapchat or Instagram, and couldn't even open a WhatsApp on occasion. Now then, the food. Not horrific. If you don't like the meat in a sometimes odd sauce, there will always be a fair share of potatoes to go around. There was always a soup starter. I didn't eat the soup starter. However while on the trip say goodbye to fruit and veg, nothing remotely close to a salad was served, and the only fruit we got was a tinned peach with the chicken main (interesting combo in itself) and a tinned fruit 'salad' as one of the deserts. Breakfast was 'continental'- some pain au chocolate, croissants and baguettes, which don't get me wrong were actually very nice tasting... It's just that was it, asides from a coffee machine and a juice machine. Lunch was thin bread (we also utilized breakfast baguettes) with self serve cheese and ham and butter, an u washed apple and an odd chocolate wafer. I recommend you make more than one piece of bread and take more than one water of you drink lots as it tastes better than hotels tap. Finally the room. I was in a room of 7- cramped. Two of us ended up pushing our beds together and had three of us sleeping in there... and the bunk beds creeked. Not very roomy but not as bad as the 4s... best rooms were the 6s... shower (s); we had two adjacent to each other, which we never used at the same time but you know... they were there, and the toilet was in a separate room, so the showers and the toilet were not together. I hope anyone going to stay here will fond this a helpful review so you know what to bring... this is mostly aimed at other school groups tbh.

Stayed here for a school trip, the vegetarian option of food was a lot nicer than the meat option. Food was average and staple. The hot water sometimes didn't work and some bath water came out brown!! The whole hotel was dark and gloomy. The lock on our bathroom door didn't work and the staff were quiet, not overly friendly. Hotel is metres away from a grave yard so if you are scared by this I would NOT recommend it!

I have just spent 4 nights at the Hotel Oude Abdij, escorting students on an educational visit to the battlefields of WW1. The hotel is approximately a 15-30 minute drive from the sites we visited in the Ypres area and 1.5-2 hour drive from the sites we visited in the Somme area. The hotel offers very good accommodation compared to other educational visits I have been on in France and Spain. The hotel also has a large conservatory type room at the rear with ping pong tables and large sofas to use in the evening. Continental breakfast, packed lunch and evening meal were provided and all a good quality. A good hotel for this type of visit.

Goede locatie en een goeie eerlijke keuken. De kamers hebben alles wat je mag verwachten met goeie bedden en sanitair. Het wat oudere interieur heeft wel zijn charme en stoort niet. De bediening is perfect en alle vragen worden goed opgevolgd.

I stayed here 2 weeks ago with a Leger battlefield group and I absolutely loved my stay.The hotel has lots of charm and character inside and out.My room was large,comfortable and spotlessly clean. The food was plentiful and varied and if it wasn't on the menu the chef would make whatever was asked of him! Compliments to the chef,the 3 course menu each evening was beautiful!! The staff were probably the most friendly and helpful I have ever come across during my numerous visits to the battlefields the last few years.Look forward to seeing you all again.

We stayed here for a night on a coach holiday to France ending with a visit to nearby Ypres. This hotel is in a beautiful setting and is a lovely building but the health and safety aspect was sadly neglected. For a start, some of our over 60s party had mobility issues, rooms on the third floor had to be reached by lift to the second floor, the lift only accommodated 2 people at a time, you then had to go up a poorly lit brown carpeted winding staircase to the third floor. Four of our party had to change their rooms as they either had difficulty reaching the third floor or the room offered was very dusty and not fit to stay in. Interestingly, the rooms they were then given were light modern and airy and should have been available to us all at first. Our room had 4 single beds and looked like a dormitory, it was clean but the over bed lighting was inadequate and a table lamp needed a new bulb. The shower in the bathroom was modern and efficient but the loo seat was loose and there was a doorway into what looked like a roof space that was thick with dust with an assortment of pipes. Breakfast was the usual continental affair with plentiful supplies of meats and cheeses as well as bread and yoghurt etc. There were no staff in attendance.There was a large school party in the newer wing which we could see at breakfast, we had no issue at all with this but I wonder if school parties are accommodated in the newer wing because of the health and safety issues in the older part of the building.

Ik kan alleen oordelen over het eten, de drankjes en de bediening. Na een mooie fietstocht door het hoppeland aangekomen in de oude Abdij. dit hotel is compleet ingericht voor fietsers die dan ook hartelijk worden ontvangen. heerlijk eten mooie bieren en een toffe bediening. Een aanrader.

Stayed here with Leger holiday battlefields tour, ideal for this type of thing. Rooms were adequate,could do with the windows been able to open a bit more! Breakfast was typical of a continental type plenty of it, the bar was great and staff very friendly There was a school party there .. did not bother us as they were in another section of the hotel

I went on a school trip and stayed three nights in this hotel which were three nights I regret. Firstly, the rooms were stiflingly hot so we had to open the irresponsibly dangerous windows, but all that did was let in bugs, flies and spiders which frequented everywhere from our beds to our suitcases, and all over our bathroom. The Beds:The sheets had stains on it, we didn't have pillows; just square cushions?!, there were loads of bedbugs, however they were relatively comfortable. 2 bunk beds, 2 single beds. Bunk beds woke us up in the night as they are very creaky. Ladders unstable. The lights: Heated the room which would've been good in winter but we went in summer. Very dim. The bathroom: 2 showers, hot water worked temporarily and no towels or places to hang them. No soap provided, floor was extremely dirty. Spiders and mosquitoes hung from the ceiling. Quite dusty. Additional notes about the room: No drawers to store clothes only 2 tiny desks, T.V boring, they do not provide loo roll we had to buy some. Next: The food. Dinner: Soup was disgusting. Didn't tell us what was In it other than 'vegetables'. Meat was covered in a mustard/butter sauce which was horrible, meat was undercooked, potatoes quite nice. No chicken. Water tasted sour, and no juice. We got cheap desserts. The teachers got posh desserts. The dinners didn't vary much and most people scraped off the sauce that covered everything on the plate. Lunch: Stale seedy or limp white anyone? Fatty, wafer thin ham, sweaty looking cheese, cheap kitkat which tasted like the smell of BO, and brown apple. No juice. We had to buy water. My advice is take the rolls/croissants from breakfast and keep them for lunch as they were the only decent things. Breakfast: No cooked breakfast whatsoever. Disappointed, and it was never varied: Just toast, butter, jam, croissants, and you had to wake up earlier to actually get orange juice from the unreliable machine. Additional: Outside smells like 1000 cows Quite pleasant outside if not for the smell; tables, chairs, and grass. Table tennis and punch machine available Sofas Only wifi in the reception:( which was miles away from our rooms. Other part of hotel much more attractive. Corridors dark and dingy. Doors get stuck all the time. Piano is broken. Stairs are unsafe. Staff are never around Staff are unfriendly No snacks HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR STAYYYYYY

De maaltijden zijn dagelijkse kost maar lekker klaargemaakt, het ontbijt is ruim van aanbod. Dit hotel is ideaal voor groepen door zijn goeie prijs kwaliteits verhouding.

Just returned from 4 nights here on Ledger Battlefield Tour. Beautiful setting by pond and to side of Church. Nice grounds and very peaceful. We had a room in the eaves quite warm but could have window open all night We did not experience any mosquitos but there is a plug with repellent. Room has light duvets and 2 pillows each plus TV we did not use. Bathroom has small toiletries but we always take our own plus flannels and a towel. 4 towels provided. Always plenty of Hot water. Breakfast usual cold Continental lots of lovely rolls, local bread,pain au choclate delicious. Set menu at 18 Euro Starter, Main and Dessert. Example Home made Tomato Soup, Flemish Stew with Vegs and Raspberry Torte. Also has menu with Steaks, Pasta,Omelettes, Fish, Salads all looked excellent. Wine 4 euro a glass !7 for bottle Choice of 30 Belgian Beers 3 euro. Excellent Cappacino 3 euro. Lovely airy Dining conservatory with outside patio area. Small bar adjacent to main lobby again there is an outside patio with small flower pond and courtyard. The staff are charming and to help things run smoothly everything is charged to your room. You can settle with cash or card. We were under charged so paid difference in cash. Village very tiny but there is a bar restaurant called The Swan round the corner of the church. School groups do stay here in separate annex and have own dining room. First 2 nights teachers had no control over them. Our guide had to take this up with hotel as teachers not interested obviously why so badly behaved. Next orchestra group a delight. We would happily stay here again Great tour and place to stay. Bedrooms have no air con or fans and previous reviewers have noted the mosquito problem brought about by the existence of a pond and a small lake in close proximity to the main buildings. Since our stay was during warm weather attempting sleep with the windows closed was most uncomfortable. Opening the window proved challenging since it immediately shut itself, so we wedged it open with the waste bin. Although the hotel provide a plug-in lozenge burner I ended up with 7 painful bites. Hence the conundrum “sweat or scratch”. On a happier note the bedroom was a good size with modern furniture consisting of a wardrobe with 5 assorted wire hangers, vanity unit, drawer unit and bedside cabinets with drawer & cupboard topped with a light & telephone. Since both our coach party plus the various school groups were 100% British it was odd that the TV had no English channels? In both the bedroom and en suite bathroom there was a mildly pungent smell of mould. There was no tea/coffee making tray, safe or fridge/minibar. We did however get two well filled pillows and the two single beds were reasonably comfy. Soap and shampoo were supplied but we had to have one moan to get the room valeted & fresh towels. We don’t think they hoover under the beds too often. The evening meal at €18 was good value although breakfast was basic. Bar prices were reasonable which was gratifying since the village of Lo resembles a ghost town and we were hard pressed to find an alternative who was a) open and b) reasonably priced. Much has been said regarding the noise pollution caused by school parties. You can hardly blame the teachers for making a bee line for the bar in the evenings. Realistically when they are contained within a separate annexe all is well, however when numbers spill over to the main building problems can arise. Boots do a good range of budget priced ear plugs

there were bugs in our room, that only came out after certain time in evening. hundreds all over the beds in the room. food was horrible. however the grounds of hotel and location was lovely, wifi in certain places.

I came here on my school trip to have a look at some things from WWI. The breakfast consisting of a selection of muesli, cornflakes, pain au chocolat, croissants, French bread, orange juice, water, coffee and hot chocolate. A packed lunch of white/brown sandwich- ham,cheese or both, an apple, a chocolate bar and a bottle of water. And, for the night we ate there we had tomato soup with bread, sliced pork, mushrooms, cream sauce(of some kind), salad and fries. The rooms of six had two single beds, two bunk beds (a bit scary sleeping on the bottom with the creaking when the top bunker rolled around), a toilet, two showers (one broken and had a tendency to leak onto the bathroom floor) and a sink with mirror( in a separate room to the toilet), (also no lock on the shower room door and lights on outside so my peers did, expectedly, turn the light off whilst showering or using the toilet.), a television, hairdryer and window. Overall a pretty good hotel especially for a school trip

Just spent another four day trip to the First World War battlefields with over 50 school children. The separate wing for school groups works really well and the staff are friendly and helpful and can cater for special diets.

disgusting they didn't find me a towel when I asked everyday and they tried to find me a nice warm shower but there was none! they only give teachers wine and children complained of the food which was "stew" it was horrid . :(

Where do I start? If you looking for a bit of peace and quite then forget it!. This hotel is more interested in dealing with school trip party's and that is exactly what I had to put up with. There was 3 coach load of school children and where more interested in making noise and banging loudly. I couldn't sleep very well at all anyway due to the single bed even though I had to pay more because of the single person supplement,then I should get a double bed. There are are no tea/coffee making facilities in the room and the towels are changed once every 2 or 3 days. The breakfast is a very very limited continental breakfast but don't expect any hot food even though they have a kitchen. This is proberbly all down to having the school coach party's staying there,that's why they won't do hot food at breakfast. So in a nutshell,It would be highly unlikely I would stay at this hotel again.

Great place for a school Battlefields trip. Rooms were comfortable and a decent size. There is plenty of space downstairs for entertainment in the evening (as well as a small but well stocked bar for the staff!). The food was good and plentiful and was better than many places that cater for school groups abroad. The staff were really pleasant and helpful and the hotel had a really nice atmosphere. I would definitely look at using this hotel for future trips to Ypres.

set in its own grounds next to a old church , stayed here for 4 nights in march 2015 0n the ledger battlefeld tour . if you looking for a 4 or 5 star stay then forget it but we had no complaints . stayed in room 7 . fair sized room and bathroom with a good power shower . room clean and quite but could do with a lick of paint . tiny little bar with good local lager at 3 50 euros for a large glass . plenty of seating area to sit and have a drink . continetenal breakfast is basic but theirs plenty so if you go hungry its your own fault . really enjoyed the set 3 course menue for 17 euros . plenty of food and well cooked and presented . found the staff , friendly and helpful . 2 small bars 5 mins walk in the village square through the graveyard . 7 euros for 2 large beers . tiny villiage is like a ghost town . you will be lucky to see anybody day or night . all in all a good base .

We recenty returned to the Old Abbey for our 10 visit, this time with 6 friends, although this hotel does not get the best reviews we can't fault it. The Old Abbey does not charge a huge amount and yes you can find out the prices of rooms from there website under reseravations, prices and meals and drinks are very good compared to some of the big hotel groups! We have never had problems we the staff and found them very friendly. Whilst we were staying there was a school party also there but they are in a completely seperate block for meals and have games rooms thee as well. Our small party of eight had our own seperate dining room which was excellent. When visiting this hotel I can strongly recommend you visit the biscuit factory 5 mins away in the village, also just by the Bakery in the village is a Adult Learning Centre with a wonderful gift shop, well worth a visit!

This is an OK hotel. It has many things to recommend it, but has some weak spots. Positives include a good position, a lovely building and grounds, a bar with a lovely atmosphere, great food and a staff who can't do enough for you. Weaker areas are: no wifi in bedrooms, no air conditioning, tatty in places- for example the walls are scratched on the stairs and sockets are hanging off the walls, the bedroom furniture and pillows are ok, but not luxurious, and there are no showers- baths only. The menu is set, but the price and quality of the food more than made up for this: €17 for three courses. Don't stay here if you expect Hilton/ Radisson conformity. Do stay here if you want a little quirkiness, and a cheapish price (you get what you pay for). It's also full of friendly and interesting guests. NB there are apparently usually school parties around, although none when we were staying.

Stayed here Sept 29th -Oct 3rd while we did battlefields tour.Found the hotel very pleasant,friendly staff clean rooms and good food.Not much of a choice regarding food but what we had was delicious nice bar that didn't,t rip you off and if you fancied a stroll the town centre only a short walk away.Bedroom basic but was large and clean with shower and bath. Would certainly stop here again if ever in this part of the world.Only one down side was horribly bitten by mosquito's in my room(25) but I am sure hotel will try and get this sorted, a plus was free WiFi

I have just returned from a 4 night stay at this hotel used as a base by Leger travel on their Dunkirk battlefield tour. It is an old building full of local character,yes the decor may not be up to everybody's taste but your in belguim,not Barker & Stonehouse. The breakfast is of continental type,quality good. We had set meals on our visit (again good quality)but ask for their snack menu too,it has steaks etc on. The beer is local brewed,€3.50 for a large glass. The rooms are plainly decorated with clean bedding etc. The staff are friendly. Not sure what more people want. If you tire of hotel bar there is a newly opened bar round corner from hotel,turn left then left again.

TRIPADVISOR REVIEW good: - spacious, tidy rooms with comfortable beds and a working television - many social areas - there were plenty of plug sockets so multiple people could charge items at once - 2 shower cubicles so more than 1 person can shower at a time - plenty of storage space - gorgeous views - free wifi (fairly fast depending on how many people using and whereabouts in hotel) - lovely starters (homemade soup) - functional lift - bins are emptied from rooms every day, as are new toilet rolls brought in - plug socket in bathroom - good entertainment - ie, football table, ping pong table etc. - private parking bad: - FOOD. Main meals were disgusting! Absolutely revolting and service was slow/poor. Meat was not cooked fully and you didn't get an option of which food you got. IF YOU PLAN ON GOING HERE - SAY YOU'RE A VEGETARIAN AND YOU'LL GET PIZZA!!!! Puddings were plain and boring (basic, shop-bought chocolate mousse and cheap, shop-bought ice creams) If on a school trip, you will be treated unfairly!! Teachers get wine.. You get water. Teachers get cake.. You get lumpy mousse. Teachers get beautifully presented ice cream.. You get cheap ice cream (shop bought). You will literally be living off the vending machine food. - water!! The water smells and tastes of mouthwash - All students from our school trip came to the conclusion that it was pond water. As well as the shower and tap water, which STINK! - dishes. Dishes are not washed to satisfactory standard. If you look, you'll see previous food still on them. - smell! Belgium in general smells of cow dung except the chocolate stores. - there are no locks on toilet nor shower room doors. Terrible. - pillows were uneven and lumpy. - top bunks of bunk beds weren't connected to the wall at one side and could be rocked - towels were not provided and had to be asked for - shower cubicles don't shut right and water leaks outside of cubicle - during the entire experience, there was a flickery light on the second floor and still, after 5 days, the lightbulb was not changed - karaoke music was not up to date - hotel room doors do not lock from inside - rooms got hot too fast - no mirror in main room - no shops nearby Overall, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to school trips. UNLESS YOURE A TEACHER!!

We have stayed at this hotel several times, this time I booked 5 rooms for ourselves and friends that have not stayed there before, we love The Old Abbey which is in a very quiet location, although most people would be put off by there being few staff about we have never had problems with this and can not fault the place, having just spent a couple of nights in the Novotel in Ypres on a organised Classic Car Tour were the price of drinks were more than double the cost at the Old Abbey. We had the set meal on the Sunday night and our friends could not believe the price or presentation of the food. In fact I am about to book 4 rooms to return again in February we enjoyed are stay that much!

In contrast to many other reviews we are on a bike tour from Amsterdam to somewhere in the south of France. After a day of rain and headwinds this place appeared like heaven. The setting and surrounding are just beautiful. Yes, the place needs some uplift, however the room was large, clean and the bathroom clean. The staff very friendly and helpful. We had the three course menu, very good soup, tasteful fish and a nice desert. Good value for money. A place we recommend.

just come back from doing the fortress of Europe and Dunkirk tour stoped at this hotel well the room had a cobweb by the door it was there all week shelf above the sink not cleaned all the week room not hovered food breakfast plenty of choice evening meal was ONE set meal or nothing but there was bar snacks SOME nights dinning room could do with a bit of redecorating lift worked when it felt like it the only good thing was the tour itself as the guide was informative and the drivers were very good

I stayed at this hotel while on a school trip and after reading the horror story reviews online days before the trip I thought that it was going to be an awful time. For a school trip I think that this hotel was more than adequate. Although we weren't given any choice in the food we were served for dinner it didn't bother me-or most of my class mates- as it was really nice. The room that I stayed in with four others had plenty of space and was clean. The only problem was that there was no lock on the bathroom door and that the toilet was in a sperate room.That aside everything was great. Also, this hotel is in an excellent location and we never had to waste time on the coach as everything we were going to see was nearby. Overall, I enjoyed the two nights we spent in the hotel and I definitely recommend it for school trips and for anyone who wants see sites related to WW1.

The first impressions upon arrival were great with the beautiful setting in a tranquil small town centre. We were welcomed and directed to a vast room with painted ceilings and a door onto a small terrace with table and chairs opposite a dovecote. As we were settling in, we noticed quite a lot of dust and cobwebs and the shower clearly needed a good scrub. We found the bed uncomfortable and the pillows useless. Spare pillows in the wardrobe smelled musty and felt slightly damp due to being in situ for some time. The shower was cold (although to be fair, we were using it at a busy time) but it may have been nice if the shower head was attached to the wall. Clearly, the place needs some tlc and could be really nice. I'm not sure if I liked the staff or not as they were a bit indifferent or perhaps this was a cultural thing. The food was ok, we had a set menu but no choice which we found surprising. Loved the soup and appreciated a second helping but the desert of cold custard pie was a marmite moment. In terms of value for money, I guess €80 per room per night is ok but I would be happy to pay another €20 for a clean room/shower and a better bed with nice pillows,

Myself and a group of about 12 others go every year in November for remembrance day. We usually say for a week at a time and all the years we have been going the hotel and staff are brilliant the food is great value for money and the service is out of this world. When I read through the other reviews I couldn't believe what I was reading its a basic hotel not the RITZ. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and I look forward to going back this year

My husband & I were on a battlefield tour travelling with a group and stayed a couple of nights at this hotel next to the church in a small but attractive village. The hotel was in a pretty garden, with a dovecot, a stream and a avery large car parking area. It was unexpectedly large, with a huge dining room, plenty of comfortable seating areas, a very small bar, interesting battlefield exhibits and a quirky lift. Our room was spacious , simply decorated in light colours with an attractive mural on the ceiling that carried on through the wall into a large bathroom with a good sized shower cubicle and plenty of towels. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful. We opted to have the set 3 course evening meal - second helpings of soup offered, a substantial main course,[ as a vegetarian they provided an alternative main] delicious food for E16 a head. Basic options for breakfast but plenty of it- cereals, fruit salad, yoghurts, croissants, pastries, boiled eggs, cold meats and cheeses breads, tea, coffee & juice. The only negative was that without transport Ypres/Ieper was about 23 kilometres away and when asking about a taxi we were quoted E50 each way. Would happily stay there again- great value and very comfortable & quiet!

I stayed with my school for a battlefields for four days and three nights. Food wasn't great however the bedrooms, communal areas and bathroom facilities were good. Thoroughly enjoyed it and it is close to Ypres and perfect for school trips.

Me and my school went on a school trip to Belgium for 3 days and 2 nights. We stayed at this hotel and before we went I looked at all the reviews about how bad it was and how dirty and rotten it was but I was presently surprised by the hotel. The hotel was very warming and enjoyable to stay in as the room we stayed in was really nice and clean. There was a few faults about the room such as the lights were very dim and flickered a little, there was no soap in the bathroom but these problems could be worked round. The food I wasn't particularly pleased with but this was probrally because I'm a fussy eater as alot of people enjoyed it There was wifi but not very good wifi so everyone moaned but it was fine because it was only 3 days :) It was ideally located as it was in a good distance with the battlefields Altogether I enjoyed the hotel :)

I went to Belgium on a School War Graves Trip. Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed the time away in a beautiful place with my friends, the same cannot be said of this hotel. PROS AND CONS Cons: Food was horrible. The soup tasted faintly of urine, and the vegetables tasted strongly of the same, served with flavourless chips. The coffee tasted like dirt, and the lunch was provided was thin ham and cheese on stale bread, and they ran out, so I had to go hungry both days. And the dinner was topped off with a cheap rip off cornetto, yum. Staff had to be asked 6 times for a jug of water to wash down the awful food. Hotel was poorly lit and confusing to get around. While some rooms ( especially the top floor) were relatively nice and had modern bathrooms and we're relatively clean - although one had a hole through to the bathroom of the room below - room 8a, which I stayed in, was abysmal. The tv was hung precariously on the wall and looked unstable, the full size window, whilst good for talking to friends in other rooms, was ridiculously unsafe. The furniture was awful, beds were I comfy, and my bathroom smelt so strongly of mould, with which it was filled, that I vomited. Had to walk through bar/smoking room to reach the old buildings rooms. Geese were very loud at night. Rooms were hot all the time, even with the door sized window fully open. Very unhygienic. Poorly staffed. The lack of fruit ( as the fruit and veg provided was either disgusting, bruised or mouldy) gave me a severe case of diarrhoea and unbearable stomach pains. Pros: good location for war graves Some rooms in the old building and most in the annexe were acceptable. That's about it. Conclusion: if you really have to stay here,a void room 8A and stick to the Annexe and loft area. Avoid eating in the hotel, me and my friends were going to order a pizza in secret but luckily we got to eat out as even the staff couldn't stand the food. Avoid this hotel, the local city of Reims has many nice hotels.

PROS AND CONS OF OUDE ABDIJ 1. The Oude Abdij is located on a dead end with the entrance right next to the ''old abbey'' which is covered with a cluster of graveyards. 2. The area I was staying in, the annexe for school parties, looks over the lake and it absolutely stinks of foul water and dirty geese and swans. 3. The food was alright but was not great quality. Tomato soup starter was particularily salty and tasted like 'pasta bolognaise sauce with water mixed in' (QUOTE FROM A FRIEND). 4. There is wifi access but this is only downstairs and not in the room. You must use the wifi netwrork ''old abbey'' and the passcode ids 12345678. P.S THE INTERNET IS FREE OF CHARGE :D. 5. The room was below standard and could benefit with some updating of the decor in the orange rooms. 6. The televisions in the rooms are extremely fat and had no remote so you have to stand everytime you wish to change a channel, volume etc. 7. Suprisingly the shower was extremely clean but there were no towels, soap and tolietries so bring your own. 8. The bathroom was separate and there was a WC on the other side. This was in my case quite helpful as a few people enjoyed to do their doo's in the loo's 4 or 5 times a day. But for others this maybe an issue. 9. Myself and my 2 friends shared two single beds, pushed the together, and this was due to the amount of bull**** written all over the the frame of the lower bunk bed. Remarks of all sort were written all over and it is distressing to sleep whilst looking and vulgar comments of this nature. 10. There were some used tissues under the bed probably covered with mucus and goodness knows. 11. In the wardrobe there were only 4 hangers but they were all different with some plastic ones broken and other platics ones coiled with wire and cellotape stuck tatily on the hangers. 12. The view was nice in the loft rooms but it was a shame I could bearly see anything through the dirt infested windows. They were covered in a build up of black dirt and dust obstructing the view.] 13. The blind kept falling off as it had been incorrectly inserted but it hang on overall. 14. The hallway lights kept going off making it uncomfortable walking up 2 flights of stairs in the dark. There were some nice lamps in the room so it wasnt too bad. 15. The photos on the website are quite misleading only highlighting the best rooms and not the annexe bit as much. 16. The beds were extremely uncomforable. I woke up with a painful lower back and one of my friends was affected so badly by the discomfort of the beds she did not attend school. The mattresses were extremely uncomfortable. 17. For breakfast it is just an all butter breakfast. There are minimal choices which are; -croissants -pain au chocolat -tea -orange juice -milk -sugar -hot water -cornflakes -bread -butter -margarine -jam -peanut spread Thats it. There was barely any choice and there was a hair in the basket of pain au chocolat. My friends and I lived off our own food as we were sooooooo hungry. 18. Going as a school party we were provided with packed lunches which you make yourself. If there arent enough food you miss out so there was a shortage of food. The packed lunch consisted of; -baguette (which usually ran out) -ham and cheese slices -bread as a baguette substitute -carton of orange juice -wafer -red apple This was less than satisfactory according to my standards and once again lived off my own snacks and junk. I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights for a school trip on world war 1. It was overall ok but some points to think about when deciding to go there have been arisen above. Out of 10 i'd give the hotel a 5 out of 10. Even though its not to my taste and had dodgy elements it catered for my basic needs and trust me i've been to much worst. E.G HIPPOTEL, LE TOUQUET. Read that review too if you want.

Find it hard to reconcile other comments with my experience. This is a fairly basic hotel which offers very good value for money. I don't speak Flemish and some of the staff speak little English; however, all were pleasant and would soon find another staff member speaking excellent English. We were offered loan of maps and given advice as to battlefield sites; also there was no problem with an early meal on the evening on which we wanted to visit the Menin Gate ceremony. The evening meals are set menu but it was always explained what we would get and I assume that an alternative such as an omelette would be rustled up if the set item was not acceptable. The hotel has a library of World War 1 books. I hope to return

Kamers zijn misschien wat verouderd ( heeft ook zijn charme ) maar alles is aanwezig en zeer net. de maaltijden zijn gewoon maar zeer goed. het ontbijtbuffet heeft keuze genoeg. Kortom een aanrader voor wie prijs en kwaliteit van belang is. Pasar-Ingelmunster

Firstly, I'd like to express my appreciation for the town who put up with the disgusting hotel you offer to the public. The food was dreadful, with no choice to what you wanted to eat. The portions of meat reminded me of a packet of wafer thin ham. I really think you should book up your idea's before you think about running a hotel. I found pubic hair in the bed sheets and in various places such as the bathroom. The main pillow's and mattress's had stains on. It could of only been either sweat or something I would rather not speak about. All in all, just a terrible place to stay, i will not be coming back.

Food terrible 16 euros was awful ...tinned veg yuk....stairs lethal and corridors very dark .....our room had the foulest smell in the bathroom as if it hand been used for a long time.....beds old ..curtains didn't fit the windows and half the skirting boards on (not painted) and the other half no skirting at all.....in the middle of nowhere not handy for anything at all.

One of the hotels of choice for Leger tour of WW1 battlefields and in an ideal location. Stayed 4 nights in early August so no school parties (looks like the annex is used for these groups). Food quality very good; ample portions and reasonably priced at Euros16 for 3 course set menu.. Rooms basic, hot and agree with previous comments about poor bathrooms and towels. But in a pleasant quiet Belgian village near church with good routes for evening walks. Countryside very flat and hotel surrounded by fields that emitted a strong agricultural aroma. Maybe its what they were irrigating their crops with - but you get used to it. And the staff are very attentive and helpful and speak excellent English.

Stayed for 4 nights for a battlefields tour. Although well situated for daily tours, we were very disappointed with the hotel. Our room was extremely basic, dreary and very hot. The bed wasn't very comfortable and the towels had definitely seen better days. More concerning was the awful plumbing, we had two major problems with our bathroom toilet and shower. Not at all pleasant, unhygienic and not what we would expect in any hotel. We loved the battlefields tours but cannot say the same about the Oude Abdij.

Stayed at this hotel for 4 nights whilst accompanying pupls on a school trip to the WWI Battlefields. The hotel is ideally located for trips to and from the several battlefield sites such as Ypres, The Somme and Bruges. There are two sections to the hotel - one for general guests with a bar/eating area etc. and a seperate section for school trips including a seperate eating and recreational area for the pupls. The school rooms are divided into dormitories with single bunk beds, showers and toilets. The teachers were given seperate rooms again with ensuite facilities. It is very basic and cold be a little cleaner but did the job. The beds were comfortable and more than adequate of the purpose of the trip. The only snag was having no mirror in the room... You are required to take your own towels but this is bearable. There is a free wifi location in the reception of the hotel and a grassy area for the pupils to enjoy outdoor activities. The food was great - three courses every night - usually soup with bread, then meat with veg and potatoes followed by pudding. Food went down well most nights, just a few elements that were not great for fussy eaters. The vegetarian options were also very good, pizza, omelettes, pasta etc... Breakfast was cereal selection, croissants etc and sandwich making facilities were available to allow packed lunches for our day trips. These were baguettes, cheese, ham, juice and a biscuit. Would highly recommend this hotel for school trips.

Stayed for 4 nights, my room was comfortable but basic. Toilet and showering facilities were OK. I dined one evening and found the meal good with adequate portions of grub. Breakfast was the usual continental nothing exciting. They have a well-stocked bar with Belgium beers. Lo is situated between Poperinge [Pops to the tommy] and Ypres so is well placed for exploring West Flanders. Good Hotel with large gardens they were the grounds of an Abbey in years gone by for the money.

I went with a well known Battlefield Tour Company, late Aug 2012. Yes the room was quite basic, but it was clean. The staff was extremely hospitable, breakfast was excellent and for the price of the 3 course evening meal, certainly no complaints. I saw mixed reviews before I went, but I can honestly say that my visit along with other members on the tour was very positive. The small village of Lo was pretty, I found 2 other bars that were open. If I wanted 'night life', I would have stayed in Ypres or Bruges. The setting of the hotel was in a beautiful location and very peaceful and was ideal for getting round the sites of WW1. If you want Nightlife or the Ritz, go elsewhere. If you want peace and quiet and VFM, this place is ideal. I'm going back later this year.

Stayed for three nights while supervising a school visit to WW1 Battlefields sights. The hotle is well placed to visit these sites in Northern France and Belgium. The hotel is spilt into two, one to accomodate tourists with a bar and restaurant, the other half is to accomodate school parties. The school party area has a large ground floor space for dinner and study, table tennis tables, sound system and vending machines. The dinner food is hearty Flanders fayre which is filling, tasty and quickly served although not always suited to the average teenagers' palate. The breakfast is an adequate continental selection. The rooms are basic and were not well serviced during our stay, the room had plenty of cobwebs and the fixtures and fittings had seen better days, but are good for school trips with plenty of storage space, bedding etc. The staff are friendly and keen to help and all seem to speak good English but we asked them to post some postcards for us during the stay and two weeks after our return they are yet to arrive, so efficiency may not be the greatest. The hotel is adequate for a school trip for a few days but I would not recommend it for a family holiday to the region.

Used the hotel a few times on a 4 day battlefields tour with students Always found the staff helpful and accommodating True its not the Ritz but found the rooms comfortable and clean. The prices are excellent and there is plenty of room for the students to "spread out" I would recommend this hotel to anyone esp those with school groups A great location too

We have just returned from a four night stay at Oude Abdij in the small Belgian town of Lo in Belgium. This was our fourth visit as a member of a branch of the Royal Marines Association doing a battlefields tour. The hotel is divided into two parts the main part and another part catering for school parties. The key points for us were: The location seems a bit out of the way but is actually well situated geographically for a number of battlefields sites and other places of interest. The town of Lo is small and has a number of shops and cafes. The rooms are basic, clean and functional with good beds and fresh towels (we tried to keep ours and do our bit for the environment but the seemed to get changed anyway). The continental breakfast is of a good standard with a wide range of items on the menu, cereals, fruit, cheese, cold meats, fruit juice, tea, coffee etc. The evening meal is a set three course menu and whilst not really adventurous is of good quality, well presented and efficiently served. Every time I have been all the staff have been friendly, helpful and professional. We keep going back so they are definitely something right! A point to note about the school trips. These aren't everyone's cup of tea and I have had occasion to speak to both children and staff about standards of behaviour on one visit. However following a discussion the issue was resolved. That said I have to balance that comment by saying most of the school kids really good and the group that were staying at the same time as us were an exceptional bunch of young people. 'HM the Wife' and I are looking forward to our next trip

This hotel has a perfect location for a battlefields tour and is quite cheap, however the rooms are dated and worse unclean and heavily covered in grafitti. The staff are adequate but unfriendly and the food is no better. I believe the normal accomodation to be better but the rooms for school trips are awful. The facilities are however, good with table tennis and nice sofas. The eating area is also quite nice. Other facilities are not so great (for example, food is ONLY available at meal times and there is nowhere to get a drink). All in all, a conveniently placed hotel which needs a lot done to make it a pleasant place to stay. We went on a trip for 13/14 year olds organised by our school.

Thank you Anna and staff for yet another excellent stay in your family run friendly hotel, we know that the village is very peaceful place, but that all adds to the charm to us, I think we had stayed with as least 8 times now and we will be back again in December when we come Christmas shopping

I stayed here for 4 nights whilst on a ledger battlefield holiday the holiday experience was fantastic and the hotel helped to add to this. 1st off this hotel is a family run hotel so don't expect something like a holiday inn . It is located in the Plesant town of Lo in Belgium the area is very quiet there are no shops in the town only a butchers and a bakery no supermarket there are two bars in the town and they were only open once whilst I was there so the only place to have a beer is at the hotel which was fine the main beer is Jupiler which is very Plesant ,you might want to try some of the local dark beers (high alcohol content ! ). The hotel it's self is surrounded by trees a lake which is very nice. The hotel has 60 rooms but it is never that busy I stayed in a room on the 3 rd floor and it was very Plesant it had a very comfy bed and the room was very clean (no tea making facility's) the main part of the hotel was originally an Abby so the rooms are alittle cramped and the bathrooms are a prime example of that ,there is no shower they are baths with a shower head but there is no curtain so you have to have a bath or you risk water going everywhere over the 4 nights the room was "cleaned" every day by that I mean the beds were made and new towels were put in the bathroom ,that was it . If you plan on eating in Lo the only place yet again is the hotel I only ate there once and it was typical home cooked food we had tomato soup to start and turkey salad and chips for main and strawberrys and ice cream for desert . It wasn't "fine dining " as stated on the website but none the less it was very good 16€ for a 3 course meal you can't complain. The staff were friendly and all could speak English well note they speak Flemish in Belgium not French but most understand French. Over all the hotel was a nice place to stay if you are looking for a quet place to stay then this is the place for you.

We have been using the hotel oude abdij run by ANNY and her family for many years ..we are an ex P.O.W. association and also have links with the A.T.S. now W.R.A.C. and the War Widows association..we first used the hotel some 10 years ago by accident as a travel company booked hotel/rooms for us ..for us it is well placed for the war graves both in France and Belgium even trips dowwn to ARAS , Vimy Ridge are all do-able within the day and of course the evening in YPRES for the last post so easy back aat the hotel for a good drink with the group ..trips into Brugge , Ostend all easy we have even traveled into Holand bit of a late return but we managed it ..we found the hotel well priced and most rooms comfortable the meals are all ok for us northerners ..we cant fault the hotel at all ...good staff friendly people and we are always made welcome ..have just eturned from our 8th trip alpne and was at the hotel just 18 months ago with the "heros return " lottery funding ..not one person had a complaint ...

Firstly, my experience is based round a school battlefeild trip in Flanders. The grounds of the hotel are well kept and there is even space to play open games like football. Also the hotel is situated perfectly for various trips to Ypres and other famous WW1 landmarks. Rooms were average for sharing up to 4. However, I found that the hotel atmosphere and hospitality was very cold and the food was terrible. I cannot express that enough. There was no menu saying what you were eating aswell, which was a bit disconcerting. Location wise fantastic!

Pleasant Hotel set in nice grounds in Interesting small village (having two bars and a restaurant). Very helpful staff, excellent and reasonably priced three course set evening meals, with separeate options / snacks (not sampled). Spacious dining room with adjacent comfortable lounge area. Wine and bar prices very reasonable. Had a modern, clean twin-bed room and the Continental style breakfasts were fine, with a wide choice. Went with a battlefields Tours company and would recommend this venue to anybody.

Clean, friendly staff, plenty of towels. Evening meals good value for money 16Euros for three courses wasnt a bad price at all and the food very tasty. The breakfasts consisted of fruit, breads, meats, cheeses, juice, jams, croisants; typical continential breakfast and plenty of it. The location was excellent a very peaceful and pretty village with a wonderful outlook from most of the rooms. Four bars to choose from in the village if you wanted, may not have all been open at the same time. I would sure go again - it was value for money. Dont be misled by the rubbish reviews previous, what tosh about ghosts!! and just water for breakfast!! - Vivid imaginations may be the case there I think as the place I visited certainly didnt fall into those shortfalls. I'd sure go again. (smashing little bar in the hotel full of history and nostalgia)

Kamers zijn klein en oud, maar zeer netjes en alles wat je nodig hebt is aanwezig. (voldoende handdoeken, staaltjes douchegel etc) De muren zijn precies van karton. Wij hadden een baby bij die 's nachts gehuild heeft, de buren hebben dit ongetwijfeld gehoord. (dit is voor ons het enige minpuntje) Het personeel is zeer vriendelijk en hulpvaardig. Het ontbijt buffet is zeer in orde (verschillende soorten broodjes en beleg, verschillende soorten thee, fruitsap,...) We hebben ook diner in het hotel genomen. Er worden zeer grote porties gegeven, alles smaakt heel vers en lekker! Voor de lage prijs die je betaalt, krijgt dit hotel van ons een zeer goeie score!

Second time at this hotel with school party . Perfect for school parties. Rooms fine. Tv in the rooms which was great for keeping teenagers in their rooms it's not a hotel for romantic breaks but location is brilliant for Flanders

i stayed at this hotel on a battlefield trip and stayed for two nights. The room was very basic, the toilet flush never worked and grafitti over the bedroom wall. Our room had a set of bunkbeds in it and the ladder to the top bunk was not fit for purpose but the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast options were cornflakes or croissants and water. The evening meal was awful, can't stress that enough. Entertaint was table tennis and that was about it! I would definatly avoid this hotel at all costs.

I went on a Battlefield tour and stayed at the "Oude Abdij" hotel. The food was terrible and the rooms were unclean. I also found out that it could be haunted as i was woken up at 3:00 in the morning hearing knocking at the door of the room when there was no one there and at the same sort of time i also hurd a knock at he window as if someone had thrown a stone at the window. I was quite freaked out by this and now knowing it was an old abbey I believe there was in fact some paranormal activity going on in the hotel at the time i was there.

I was on a Battlefield Tour with Leger and stayed 4 nights.The hotel is very isolated .Lo has one bar and no restaurant that was open.My room was cleaned once in 4 days and the piece of food and 1 euro on the floor remained till I picked them up on the last morning. The bedding was changed once.There were cobwebs in the chest of drawers.The water trickles so you can fall asleep waiting to fill a bath.There appeared to be only four staff in the hotel.The food was good in the hotel but could take a while to reach you.

A basic hotel, popular with school parties. Rooms are dated but clean. Food was basic. Nice surroundings but very quiet with very little to do or see in Lo itself. Easy travel distance to Ypres, Bruges etc.
